VDI numbers for rings and coins

Last week I found a heavy silver ring that came up at the half dollar range of 92-93 - normally silver rings I find are down around the dime to quarter range of 82-85. I set a low range of 44 and up in the quest for gold bands and this chilly morning I found a really thin 10K one right at 44-45. I haven't weighed the ring yet but it is certainly more valuable than the heavy silver one, so seeking the gold is the way to go. Has anyone found a gold band below 44? In really junky areas I go by mostly the sound as it would be too hard to dig all the signals in the 44 and up range. Concerning coins I have found pocket spills with many various coins causing the VDI numbers to jump around rapidly and if one is not careful they will pass up these spills thinking it is junk. Slowing down and sorting out the signals is the best way. By the way my best coin total for one day this year is 258 - I could have kept detecting for more but TheOldMan was pretty exhausted. Lol!

Nice work, Old Man! A poster here called Diggin-it did a good video of rings and vids a few months ago...See if you can find it and have a look..

TheOldMan, good post, very interesting. I never thought about notching out in that way. I may have to try that. The areas I hunt are trashy, so even when i start out with a plan to dig everything, after about half hour I'm back to listening for the high tone and swinging away. Thanks for sharing, Larry

About all the gold rings I've found have been women's. All have been 3+ or - a nickel signal In other words I will dig all numbers from 48 to 53, 54 will usually be a tab or pencil eraser end. But if I'm in an area where gold is possible I dig all repeatable tones. Take some time to listen to the target before you dig and start guessing before you look at the screen.
