Vernon Cross - Hello old friend!

V-man

New member
Hello Vernon,

It's been a few years now, but wondering if you still remember me? This is V-man from MA. We shared some spirited chats on ye'ol metal detecting forums some time back... The time line would have been around your last year in Alaska... Hope this email finds you well. I see you are still actively participating in the metal detecting community... Cheers to that. I have not been detecting all that much in the past few years... an occasional jaunt here and there. Got bitten by the bug again late this year and dusted off the old Explorer and hope to get a few more swings in before the ground hardens up... Will lurk this site for more inspiration and hope to contribute with some trinket or two! Regards, Vic Cabral ~ AKA: V-man

Wow!!! Feels like I just fell into a worm hole and warped back nearly a decade, YIKES!... Just goes to show ya folks, what gets on the web, stays on the web... "The Good, the Bad and The Ugly!" lol... Good to hear from you all!!!! Didn't mean to single anyone out, ol' Vernon just came to mind first and I was able to sniff him out here upon a Google search. Sadly, I lost most of the electronic images of my old finds to a computer crash with no back up at the time... Not to worry though, I still have all the finds I've ever made stashed away somewhere... Kinda gives me a warm & fuzzy feeling knowing you all are still out there doing our thing! :twodetecting:

Just out of curiosity, how long ago did you post those pics... has to be close to 10 years now.... Where did the time go?

[size=large] Oh, and by the way, yeah I'm still using 'ol Yeller and haven't switched over to Minelab (the dark side). I figured you'd moved on to something else in life besides metal detecting when you dropped off the planet about 3 eons ago. I want you to know you broke Jim Campbell's heart leaving the forum, I think your little sidekick blamed me for your departure. He was always looking up to you, Spike.

I take that as your sweet looking daughter beside you? You are both looking healthy. I guess you figured out I moved to VA to pursue metal detecting with a little more vigor. Thanks for stopping by, hope you will continue to post occasionally.

Yes indeed, that is my little girl... not so little anymore it seems... Yours too, no doubt have grown both healthy and happy... I hope the Virginia sun has melted the icy Alaskan marrow from your bones and provided you with an abundance of hunting grounds to make even me envious. If in fact you were thinking of me today, after such a lengthy absence, that would surely make this encounter quite uncanny. Life has indeed taken me on a winding course, but I have managed to enjoy most of it, despite the occasional challenge here and there... Various hobbies and activities have distracted me from pursuing the hunt over the years, but time has a way of working its way back to your true passions... Will try to post some of my meager pickings over the past few weeks... Will need to catch up some time... Speaking of passions, this one has been keeping me busy this spring and summer.

As for Jim, I'm quite sure he's gotten over any jilting that may have occurred... lol I'm also quite sure he's been producing some pretty amazing finds of his own as I recall.

Sure glad to know you're still around and doing well. I'm really sorry to hear you lost the pics of your finds. You had some of the neatest finds I've ever seen. If you re-shoot them be sure and post em here. Lotsa folks here would enjoy seeing them. Bob

I'm truly touched by you all out there that have responded to the "Return of the Prodigal Son"... It feels good to actually be remembered by folks you've never met in person, but share a connection either way... So before Vernon sends me a virtual "Quit your blubbering you idiot, you haven't shown us anything yet!!!!", I'll leave it at that.

Also appreciate the fact that some of you remember the "Night Stalker Chronicles"... I had a lot of fun living and writing about them... I've been detecting in the daylight these days, but who knows, when the warm weather returns, I might just have to morph back into the "creature of the night" and seek out new adventures... Stay tuned!

Vern, That is one nasty looking beast!!!!! I love it!!!! Hands down, you got me beat in the bush, but on pavement, you'll have to do better than that... Although the pea-shooter in the back might slow me down. :yikes:
