Vernon's post reminded me

Royal

Well-known member
of a trip my brother Gary and I took down the Ausable River a few years back. It was a beautiful day, windy and some times in blizzard conditions but since we were down in the river valley it was fine.

We were having a ball until we came to an ice dam
This was in the worse spot too. It seems a tree had fallen and the ice backed up to it for a mile or so and the ice was too thick to paddle through and too thin to walk on.

Long story short, I hiked out 4.2 miles, snowmobilers picked me up and took me the rest of the way to the truck, about anther 6 miles or so and I had went back and got my brother and kayaks. Snow was deep and miserable to hike through but it was an exciting experience and that is what makes life worth living.

This video sucks but my camera sucked :D

but the memories always make it worth it. It can be just plain miserable when it is happening though, especially when you wonder if is going to be fatal. It has happened and I just got away with it.

Some people can be safe all their lives but from my way of looking at it, they have not lived. I am sure you have done some things up there that would make me crap my britches but it made sense at the time :D
