Veteran Excal Question..Why is my new excal falsing?

jim/wpb

New member
I'm a veteran with the excal and can't quite figure why my new one is falsing. Just bought a new one while my old one goes back to Minelab for headphone repairs (My fault on the headphones).

Just out of the box yesterday with a fresh charged battery today and in Disc mode in waist deep the units falses continuously. Doesn't matter if sensitivity is in auto or all the way clockwise.

The unit does not false in wet sand or water just up to waist deep.

Any ideas?

Do you carry your scoop too close to coil in deeper water? Sand under coil cover? Everything tightened up good? irratic coil movement, is the sand rippled with hills and vallys? Just throwing some thoughts out there...I have no idea! Maybe....when you get it wet...if you smell lemonaid...You may have a lemon from the factory...Hope you find out..good luck....Had to edit this...forgot to make sure knobs are actually turning when turned...I had knobs stripped out or setscrews loosen on me and had things all screwed up.

I heard Mr GoldMaster has a detector jamming device, I would look out for a guy in a pirate shirt carrying a sword sitting up in the dunes.

I use an Excal and love it. Initially I just wound the coil wire around the shaft paying no attention to how. I got to noticing some regular falsing when an incoming wave's surface would pass a tightly wound section of my coil wire. I rewound it spacing as EVENLY as I could and now I do not notice a problem. Just something I experienced.
Happy Huntin.

Greetings Jim,sorry to hear you are having problems right out of
the box. Here are some thoughts.First check you connectors(battery).
Next the coil cover, and that you're wires are tight-probably have
done all this already. Then make sure you try it in other locations
at the beach.Just recently I detected an area of beach and had all
kinds of falses/sounds.Scooped some to see what might be there.
Nothing. Then fanned some and saw all kinds of small material in
that area-aluminum scraps, small lead shot, all kinds of stuff.
problem solved-it was the bottom.Had it happen before with an
entire area of small iron particles(another detector).Make sure
to switch areas before returning detector-might just be material
distribution by waves.Just a thought.Good luck Joe
