Hello, I'm trying to understand my detector, i don't speak your language very well and i don't understand reading it as well. I have been reading minelabs page ( http://www.minelab.com/csa/consumer/knowledge-base/minelab-technologies#VLF ) i don't under stand very well what does VLEX mean, i have a doubt , i know that the coil connects to the control box by the black wire and that's how the coil pases the information to the control box, my doubt is does the coil pases information to the control box without the black wire too, i mean in two ways like a cellular phone to a another cellular phone without wires , like a walkie talkie.

this is what i read

VFLEX transforms conventional single frequency metal detection technology by including two microcontrollers (miniature computers), one inside the control box and one inside the coil. Every time the detector starts up, the microcontrollers establish communication via a digital data link. The coil microcontroller communicates the coil

The data link is a digital communication circuit that passes communication signals between the processor in the detector housing and the microprocessor in the coil. This data link is made via the wiring of the cable that connect the coil to the detector. It is NOT wireless communication. This wired communication link allows the X-TERRA to do all the things indicated in your post, and more. If you take a look at pages 72 - 75 of my eBook, "Understanding your X-TERRA", you'll get a pretty extensive explanation of VFLEX functionality. HH Randy
