Vibraprobe question

Hey folks. I wasn't sure what forum to post this under, so I apologize if it should be elsewhere.
Yesterday my vibraprobe 560 went crazy on me. Started going off when there was no metal around it. It would turn on sometimes, but not detect any metal objects...then shut off right away.
Seems to be a short or something. It does not appear as though I can take it apart to test anything. Anyone have an ideas how I can fix this!? Too pricey of an item to toss out. I have no warranty on it as I bought it used. Anywhere I can send it in for repairs that won't charge me an arm and a leg??
Thanks in advance...
Wess

of course I tried a new battery. *haha* I'm an electronics technician for the military. I'm sure I could fix it if I knew how to take it apart. It seems to be one solid piece though
Actually, I have my buddies vibraprobe here...and even swapped the battery out of his which it works in just fine. Any other ideas?

Wess, I'm assuming you tried your probe in different spots and away from any other detectors to make sure you weren't picking up some stray signals that the probe's pulse detection unit could pick up. If so, your unit may just be bad. Mine got to where it wouldn't detect even with a new battery. It would vibrate when I tilted it up, indicating it was on, but it would not detect metal. I notified the manufacturer by e-mail and they told me to send it in. They promptly sent me a new one with an apology and no charge. I don't have the address right in front of me, but you should be able to find it on the net. If you can't, send me an e-mail and I'll look it up for you. Even if yours is out of warranty, I suspect their repair charge would be reasonable. HB

I appreciate your help and the info. I sent them an e-mail today, and I guess I'll have to see what happens. As I said, I have no warranty on it...but it's not even a year old. Hopefully they'll be kind to me.
