Video camera question

HanoverDigger

Was looking into getting a video camera to take along while relic hunting. Spend maybe up to $300. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What kind of smartphone do you have?

I just use my iPhone 5. Does OK

But can't go wrong with a GoPro Hero 3.

But:

I don't like the Fisheye/barrel distortion look - but if you use the diving flat lens it is a bit better.
You can fix some of that distortion with software but then it is too much work in my opinion.
The newer GoPros allow you to narrow the vision down to 127 or 90 degrees (from 170) which will also help on the distortion.
But no screen unless you buy a bunch of extras.

I like the quality I get from my IPhone. I have a video posted on this forum and several recent videos on YouTube and they were all shot with the IPhone and put together with Corel Video software.

I have also used video that my buddy has shot with his phone (Samsung Galaxy 3 and 4) and that is pretty nice quality as well.
