Here is an interesting article, supposedly located near E C Glass high school.

Eva, be careful in Lynchburg. A lot of the area is historic and off limits. If you find a place to hunt, make sure that do not wonder into forbidden ground. If you accidentally end up in a historic battlefield and get caught, they will take your detector, your car, and they will throw you in jail. Good luck. Lynchburg is CW relic heaven.
I look forward to your Humor and I encourage you to keep it coming and especially my way.
My prior Post was due to my disappointment that I have not gotten very many real suggestions to this Post and the Boston one before.
My request was not for the "Secret" spot but just the public spot with potential and no chance of being led away with Hand cuffs due to the Historic locations.
I thought I would let you all know how things went on my effort to Detect at Lynchberg Virginia for the day
I was rather disappointed that I did not get any in the know resident MDers to let me know of a safe and potential areas for detecting in Lynchburg Virginia
I looked up a Park from the 1800's and had the intention of Detecting the morning before the Rain which was scheduled for the P.M.
I called the Customer Service for Park and was told that I could Detect but NOT DIG..meaning I could Find anything on the surface but NO DIGGING..HUH?!
I went to the Park any way and in the Parking Lot were two Police Cars (No Not Dragging Out A MDer) and the Park had Sport Team Games and a Festival happening
And believe it or not across the street was the other location that had been recommended with manicured lawns and total exposure to traffic and I did not feel as if I could detect in either area
I located a closed community center near these locations but it was not exposed to the street and found some Clad
What I realized was How Lucky We Are In Our Historic Area and In NYS where we can Detect in Public Parks and Public Schools not in session and State Parks off season with permits
Hi Eva. I'm trying to get some information on the rules/laws for hunting public parks and schools in Virginia. I have a friend who lives in Arlington Va and knows of several old parks and schools in the area. I've sent an e-mail to Parks and Recreation and to the school district to get some info. I'll let you know what I found out.

If you're ever in my area (Sterling Va), I would love to take you out on a hunt. Just got permission to hunt several fields that were the site of multiple Civil War camps. I asked the owner if he had given permission to anyone else to hunt it and he said no. Hoping it's virgin territory. Hunted there last weekend, but the grass is to high and could not get the coil close enough to the ground to be effective. I told the owner that I would come out with my Zero Turn mower and cut it for free.
I wish Nebraska wasn't so far away Steve. We mow hay with 2 Kosch double 7 bar mowers. So we cut 28 feet per swath. We can whack out 15 acres in about 75 minutes. Would take me probably 3 weeks to drive there though.
Have fun hunting and I'm looking forward to seeing the results.... please post them regardless of detector you use. I love seeing civil war finds.

Thanks NebTrac. I'm excited about the potential of the site and will post up my finds. I used to mow the fields I'm going to hunt when I owned my own landscaping company. Took me about 5 - 6 hours to mow 15 acres with my John Deer and a 6" bush hog. I sold the business and the only equipment I have left is my Exmark Zero Turn. Will be a pain to mow 15 acres with it, but well worth the effort. 28 foot swath is very impressive.
Hi Jeff. People around these parts are pretty tight lipped about revealing their hunting spots. I enjoy hunting with other people and often invite others to join me. If you can create your own network of trustworthy folks who respect the privacy of the hunting grounds that you've revealed to them, it a win win situation. If they decide to try and hunt it without me or tell other people about the site, then it just gets out of hand and my reputation is ruined. With that being said and understood, you can come down to Virginia and join me anytime you would like. Let me check out the area first and see if it's worth a road trip. If it's a productive area, I will ask the owner if I could bring along a friend. It may be a couple weeks before I can report back. I'm waiting to see if the area gets bush hogged as the grass it to high to hunt in right now. If he does not get it mowed within the next week or so, I'm going to see if he'll let me mow it. I used to take care of his property before I sold my business, so I'm sure he'll say yes.
Hello,
I live in Lyncburg Va. and I have been hunting the parks and schools (when closed) without anyone bothering me. There have been police and park workers there when I hunt and no one has asked me what I'm doing there. I just started MDing in mid - Feb. I don't know anyone that MD's, so I'm trying to learn on my own. I have no idea how to research the area to find old locations to hunt. I was wondering if you would be willing to give me some pointers on how to do this. I know there has got to be great places around here, just need a little help getting started. Thanks for your time.
