vista gold - site questions

I am intrigued by the Vista detectors. I run a 13khz other brand right now, and nothing against it, but am looking to potentially add a higher freq unit like the vista gold and run it over the same ground at times. The majority of sites I want it for have quite a range of active history from 1700s through current day. Usually quite a bit of foil, aluminum, canslaw, etc in the shallower layers, while i am looking for the deeper items, with nails interspersed wherever. I usually am hunting in all-metal mode now to hear the depth of targets.

questions on the VG are:

Can irregularly shaped items be determined by nuance in the audio? in either AM or Disc or both?

Is a VG fooled often by bent nails/rusty nails into giving high tone in disc? shallow or deep?

If I am out in fields with relatively few targets, how strong of signal and tone is generated on edge of detection items, assuming I am in AM?

One thing that I do know about the DeepTech Vista Gold is that it is extremely good at reporting whether a target is ferrous or nonferrous by way of tones (low tone iron high tone non iron). I was fortunate enough to find another nice DeepTech Gold to replace the one that I sold. One of the deepest, fun to use, all around detector that I have ever used.

Ive strugged with mine in the environment you describe... i sometimes wonder if the high frequency is just too much for the old homesteads... i did find a very cool flat button with it that my other units missed and it did recover several targets that had ferrous and nonferrous metals mixed in the same target that many other unit would not likely hit on.. too many of my old sites have big pieces of flat iron that make it a challenge for an machine... i took the vg to a thoughly hammered freshwater beach and found alot more nonferrous targets than i was expecting and had i been to that beach a few weeks earlier with it im quite positive i would scored some small gold.. my time with this unit has been rather short and minimal so im not sure just how much learning curve ive got ahead me with it..

Can irregularly shaped items be determined by nuance in the audio? in either AM or Disc or both? Yes, it will take a while but there are subtle difference in the audio determined by the shape. That is one way to avoid high tone targets that are not good.

Is a VG fooled often by bent nails/rusty nails into giving high tone in disc? shallow or deep? Sometimes it will. If you run the disc. lower to get some of the non-ferrous target that are mixed in with iron, yes you will dig some of the bent nails, especially the L-shaped ones.

I can only tell you about Disc. but deep targets usually give good audio response. As they get deeper, instead of losing a lot of volume, the audio tends to get softer with less definition.
