Vista X testing

Sven

Well-known member
Did some bench testing tonight with the new DeepTech Vista X.
Very sensitive to small gold.
Interesting the way the two disc controls, iron volume/ silencer and 2 tones work.
No manual at this time to refer to. Learning by doing. Ziggy in the UK had some how to use info in his Vista X video. Will have to watch it again.
Very interesting detector that has real potential as a coin and jewelry detector with its expanded disc. range.
Will get out this weekend with it.

Looking forward to your TESTS.
It'll be interesting to see what it'll make of your Canadian coins? "EQX" did some pretty weird **** on those when I bench tested a range of those last year?

Looking forward to your experience with the new X. Thanks for posting Sven. ATB Greg

This is my take so far bench testing:

Since I don't have a manual to go from. Pretty much figured discrimination controls out.
A quick run down how to use them.
There are two disc controls. Disc 1 and Disc Alt, something you have seen on a Tesoro Tejon.

Vista X Disc controls work a bit different than a Tejon.
Works with the the Iron Volume control.

Iron Volume Control
From Max setting to about 3/4 controls Iron Volume and in this area changes disc. to 2 tone
From about 3/4 to 1/2 setting changes 2 tone to single tone.
From min. to about 1/2 all discriminated out items produce no audio.

Disc controls-- If running two tone, depending upon where set, all discriminated out produces a low tone, accepted items produce a high sound.

Now you can set Disc 1 to disc out foil for example, to give a low tone, all higher conductors give a high tone. Set Alt Disc 2 to accept a pull tab to give a high tone.
So if looking for a particular conductor that fall in between that range, you know its foil, with a low tone. Switch to Alt disc.if it remains a low tone, its not a pull tab, as it will give a high tone. You can set up like a notch window. Kind of like a fully adjustable Coin Check. Similar to a non-adjustable feature on the Troy X2 metal detector that uses a toggle switch.

Vista X as full disc ability to knock out everything and accept everything.
So there are a bunch of options to make disc work for you.

I will give a run down hunting coins and jewelry in schools and parks, crossing my fingers the rain stays away this weekend. Good thing the X is water resistant.

Vista X as full disc ability to knock out everything and accept everything. Has the ability to find a 12 grain gold nugget air test about 5" with the 9x11 coil. Will detect a small gold jump ring and does well finding a small thin gold ear loop that would give other detectors fits. Reminds me of the Vista Gold's capability in locating gold.

Other air tests:
Has no problems with Canadian clad coins.
Gold ring on an iron wrought nail, can give a low and high tone or a high tone
Likes silver. Easily likes small .22 short brass bullet casing

Some errands to run this morning, early afternoon weather called for powerful rain and thunderstorm, wind warning. It arrived shortly after we arrived back home.
Lots of water on the ground everywhere.......by 6PM decided to do some extensive Air Testing, to better understand the detector and how it will function. Glad I did!!!!

These favored settings will be what I will start with at my first hunt, hopefully tomorrow.

==================================================================================================================

Overall the Vista X favored depth wise these conductors Lead, Gold, Brass, Copper over Silver.
These were used for testing.
Gold rings, nuggets, coin.
Silver coins—sterling/coin silver, silver rings, silver charms, 3” sterling silver dish
US, Canadian, Australian, European and middle east coinage in various metal compositions and sizes.
Brass bullet casings, lead musketballs, lead seals, copper dog tag

Trash—wrought iron nails large and small, canslaw, foil, bottle caps, various pull tabs, other steel junk and bolts-screws, juice bottle liners, pencil eraser casings, etc.

After about 3 hours, came up with settings that favored my hunting style. A good learning experience finding out how the Vista X can be set up and what happens at different settings.
I feel better prepared when I go out for my first hunt rather than going blind as I would have today. Due to some errands and rain this afternoon todays hunt was postponed.

Found these settings to be a good gold jewelry hunting and overall coin hunting program.

2 Tone Gives a mixed high low tone in Disc 1, high tone in Alt 2 –--on small thin gold rings and foil. Also on many of the modern Canadian clad coins lying flat mixed tone, if on edge high tone on Alt 2.

Disc 1----- set at 3.3
Alt Disc----set at 25.6

Iron Volume ---set at 5.0 (max)

Headphone/speaker volume--- set at 3.0, headphone volume then controled by headphones

Threshold----set at 3.1
Gain-----------set at 5.0(max)

Also, seems to get a bit better depth with
Threshold ---- set at 35.8
Gain------------set at 34.9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground balancing to a plastic penny tube full of black magnetic sand. Found the Vista X sees high conductors right thru it when placed on the vial—gold rings, coins. No appreciative loss of air test depth. No downgrading of higher conductors towards the iron range or low tone. Remains high tone.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keeping all the above settings except for Threshold and Gain

Threshold----set at 5.0 (max)
Gain---------- set at 0 (min)

Runs with somewhat smooth stable low volume background noise. Saturated audio to about 6” on a gold ring, then modulated to about 12”. Seems to provide about a 2” boost in depth.

Shallow Hunting to about 6-8” on a gold ring
Threshold----set at 0 (min)
Gain------------set at 5.0 (max)

Shallow hunting to about 6” on a gold ring, detector runs totally quiet
Threshold---set at 25
Gain----------set at 25

Just a slight typo above.
All potentiometers controls have adjustments from 0 to 50.
In my posts above you will see a setting of 5.0(max) or 3.1, 3.0. It should have read 50.0(max), 30.1 and 30.0.

Also, just read Keith's Southern's post at Tom D's site with some impressive air test depths. Even tho they are not real in ground depth tests. Found Keith's were somewhat better than what I got. We moved into a high rise building with some EMI present in some shape and form. I don't have a large work shop/office that is EMI free anymore, a bit tougher to bench test any detector in my new office workroom. This morning after reading Keith's post, grabbed the X and headed for another room. This time my air test depths were more in line with what Keith got.

Just waiting for the weather to clear up a bit after the storm. Wet out, 51 degree and 30mph plus winds. Sun is supposed to show its face within the next hour or so.
