to-day my daughter bought me a pair of ear buds so i could go detecting in the local park after dark, however when i tried them out ,they nearly blew my head off! they didn't come with volume control.my wife said, not a big deal, turn the volume down on the detector.i said it doesn't have a volume control.which she said is rather stupid.i said not many do.i know that the minelab x terra's have them.how many other brands have volume controls fitted in their detectors? hh,see ya ! blowfly

Blowfly i know i can not hunt in those big and hot headphones, the sweat just ruins the speakers. There are a few things you can do,i have three detectors with no vol control. The ear buds are the best because they are the lightest and you can really hear faint signals, but are hard to find with vol control.I was out at best buy and i believe walmart has them ,light weight over the head type ear bud type headphones made by maxell,i am going to get them next,i believe they are like $15 and some change, and have vol control and are small like earbuds, then if you find the walkman style phones you will find that the high vol with the phones is just perfect with the walkman style phones, because the speaker is not so close to your ears.A lot of kids get that style when they get a new walkman or portable CD player, but throw them away, and use earbuds, but grab them up quick because they make perfect detector headphones, they are also sold pretty cheap separate. The last thing you could do for lightweight headphones with no volume control is something like a koss sound amp sold by kellyco in the headphone section, you can plug any light weight earbuds or even big phones with right adapter into this,it is small,i have used it,i is not bad,you got amped up vol control, treble bass, midrange, which can change the output tone, which can be nice on a detector like the vaquero with the low tone, you can get a high tone out!.It does take 2AAA batts and you do have to put it in your front pocket or wherever you decide to put it.Maybe you can take the earbuds back,or find someone with a extra pair of walkman style phones and trade, kids hate wearing them, because they are not in style with the young, the walkman style phones are the little small sony type with the little black ear cups, these are great man,you don't need vol control with these, perfect for Tesoros and minelabs with no volume control.Blowfly if you find something in the light or feather weight class that works good, will you share it with us,a lot of detectorist are having trouble this summer,thanks.Chuck.

Blowfly, sound advice from Chuck, but as you're from Australia,(like me) the brand names etc may be different. Have a look at any of the stores which sell any electrical gear and look for their range of accessories. Most places have headphones of all shapes, sizes and prices. Something that is suitable might be quite cheap (ie. with vol. control), if so buy a couple. I had the same ex;perience as you with one of my Tesoros when I plugged in headphones without volume control. Not pleasant, but the good news is, you get over it. All the best. Sapper.

your asking which detectors have a volume control. I will list those currently being sold from the major manufacturers, that I know of. This list includes only regular, VLF type, coin and relic detectors. It does not include specialty type detectors, such as gold detectors, pulse induction detectors, and such.

hi sapper, the daughter bought me a set of sports ear buds with the longer lead by sennheisers, because i had complained about pulling the buds out every time i put the detector to one side, when recovering a target.i'll take them back and exchange them for the volume control model.it shouldn't be a problem, she works for dick smith's.thanks carolina phil,i use tesoro detectors.hi chuck i investigated those koss amp devices and they don't sell them in australia.however i'll keep my eyes out for a set of walkmans.hh see ya! blowfly.

Hi blowfly, yeh, it's a real bugg.r when the wire from the phones gets caught in the tread at the end of your boot ( or similar). The paid or stick in your ear phones that I have dont have volume control, so I cant use them with my Tesoros, but they are good phones and have caused me to dig some good stuff that I may not have dug with my other phones...downside is that they have a very thin cord which catches easily on things...still, the plus"s outweigh the minuses. All the best, Sapper.
