I am postine this here because I think Minelab is the only company capable of making a detector like I am thinking about.
I only have an idea, I am not a techie so I don't have any ideas on "how"... but..
Considering Minelab's patents on BBS and FBS are soon to expire, Minelab might want to make the next giant leap in detector technology.
Considering new advancements in computer technology such as dual processors, mega RAM and all the things that could be done with a detector that could access this kind of power.
What if a company, (Minelab), designed a monster detector with the brain and power housed in a backpack. A screen and controls on the handle. Of course it would have a place to store the shaft, an extra coil, and extra power in the pack.
I wonder what advances could be made in discrimination, maybe even aluminum disc, with such programming power? After all technology is constantly making ways to do things that were once impossible.
I would also be pleased to see an Explorer with most of the weight under the are, like the Sovereign. For hunting on turf the heavier Sovereign is actually less strain because you if you ride to coil on the turf, the handle becomes a pivot point between the weight of the brainbox under the arm and the drag/weight of the coil making it more comfortable to use for longer. You can move the coil with your forearm rather than just pushing/pulling with your hand like you have to do with the Explorer. The cuff helps but it is still harder to use for extended periods than the Sovereign... ergonimics!
I don't expect any changes in the EXP but I would love to see a really powerful, upgradable machine based on dual processors and housed in a backpack. They could include a slot for firmware upgrades and other add ons. A firewire port..
A new direction.
