WANT TO DO SOME CIVIL WAR RELIC HUNTING.

Hello everyone, I live in Iowa and we do not have much history here dealing with the Civil War, a fellow MDer and I would like to travel south somewhere and try our luck at Civil War relic hunting next year. Problem is I am not sure how to go about this, do we drive to Tennessee or maybe Kentucky and just knock on doors and ask for permission or what? I really do not want to drive so far and not have a solid plan as to where to go. I would like to be able to contact a property owner ahead of time and have permission to hunt before we arrived, Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Research, research, research...........

I googled Iowa in the Civil War and got loads of info. Here is one http://iagenweb.org/civilwar/regiment/ Check Iowa for prisons and training camps.

Just South of you is Missouri, with lots of Civil War history.
