Want to get a new Tiger Shark, so which coil???

John (Ma)

I want to get a new Tiger Shark when they come out, any thoughts on wether the 8" or 10 1/12"? I have a 10 on my excal and love it. However a well known and succesful water hunter I know, swears on the 8" coil. Any thoughts or experience with both would be appreciated as I would like to get on a list soon. Thanks :tesoro:

i prefer large coils for coverage!! and once you use a large coil it is soooo hard to use a small one! my preferance is large coils, i am looking for one for my tigershark and if i dont find one i will sell it!!!!!!
why does the guy you know swear by the small coil?

I've had a Tiger for 10 years, still using the stock 8 inch coil.........it's that good:biggrin:

The guy I know that swears by the 8" says that it covers less ground which in turn is less likely to cover more than one target and then gives you the best reading. Yes you have to slow down a bit to assure you are covering everything but in the end it pays off. He goes to several exotic vacation retreats each year and brings back an unbelievable amount of gold and silver with his excal. Which note has a DD coil where the Tiger would have the concentric if that makes a big difference or not, I don't know.

Hello,
The 10" is not that much different then the 8". The 8" may have advantage in the trash, the 10" may have a hair advantage in depth and coverage. You can easily distinguish iron once you get used to either. I use the 8", 10" and the 3" x 18" on mine and prefer the 10" for most situations..

Best Regards,
Steve

well..........hes right, if the beach is trashy! i guess its a matter of preferance. the 10 inch would give you about 2 more inches of depth and coverage. dd coil vs concentric and excal vs tigershark is a whole different subject:thumbup:

I only have the 8" and have been happy with it. However, I only get to hunt beaches/water several times a year and it's not a passion with me. I've heard others claim the 10" is superior, but haven't convinced myself that I need it, no oftener that I get to water hunt.
