War of 1812 site and the Vista X

Sven

Well-known member
Planned hunt for today fizzled out. It was a sorry weekend of rain, lots of standing water and fields of sticky mud.
Was hoping to give the Vista X some relic hunting time. Might get a chance to get back that way in a couple weeks, about a 3 hour drive away.

Bad Weather - Gotta be [ the most frustrating ] aspect of testing a New metal detector.

Hope you'll get to it soon enough...

Remembering my days spent testing 'Minelab's': out in all sorts of weather...always had a cold!!!
One day an onshore gale was coming my way and the waves [ seemed ] as if they were 8ft high breaking yards from me.
A 'rogue wave' came in and washed up dozens of yards from before and on the way out it 'took out' my experimental coils on lower shafts that I had lined up to test!!!
I retrieved them but not without wallowing and splashing around in the surf soaking my clothes on an October day!
Ah well, it was just a 12 mile drive back to the Office where a visiting Australian colleague had a great laugh at my dishevelled state!
Later that afternoon it snowed and he gazed out the window for hours! Never seen snow!!!

Talking about getting back to (to be able to return) sites, it isn't feasible sometimes to do that particularly if it's a one-off situation e.g. ghost town visit on vacation.
Sven was rained out so [ he should be able to ] return via a 3hr drive.

Just yesterday, I actually entered a site I first pencilled in for searches 42 years ago!

Why such a long time? Different reasons the most important, I hadn't been able to acquire search permission back then.
I then lived abroad for almost 20 years and work life got in the way.

I'm happy to say search permission was granted last week and yesterday, I went in for 'a reccy'
It's tough. Serious undergrowth and sloping hills.
Hence, my reason for asking whether or not the "Vista X", might switch itself off as I negotiate my way because I did a fair amount of 'backing up' yesterday!

I had a Garrett pin pointer with me and trawled across exposed areas under large trees and into old stone walls: found two coins, screwcap & a rusted junk item.
Going back in today with a 'Deus Lite'
Such a pity I don't have a "Vista X"!
I did ask.....

Came across an interesting dilemma in this 'new-to-me' site.
I've got permission to search but, contained within is a seperate property that I don't have "verbal" permission and, unlikely to get it because the owner lives abroad and I don't know who that is or how to contact them?

The "main" site is a cracker, full of hilly and sloping pasture fields bounded by thick old woodland with numerous trails within.
Last day netted several coins from 1800-1914, tons of brass cartridge ends and with the "Deus" set up in Deus Fast, I'm getting 'lovely buzzing sounds' on a multitude of ferrous scrap contained there! Dug a few and many were old rusted piping ( think home plumbing sizes )
Going in again tomorrow as weather looks promising?
