to save us money. The State will be enforcing seat belt use with a $65 fine for first time offenders.

http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2009/05/increased_seatbelt_enforcement.html

Government can't run itself yet tells us what we can and cannot do.

I still say to save money do these first: Get rid of the State Archaeologist who gets paid too much and does nothing good for the people (especially us); Get rid of the State Properties Officers who protect the spouse of the Governor. Anyone who knows he doesn't care to waste a bullet on him anyway. Get rid of the Governor's protection officer as well. We need those officers to maintain law and order not protect one individual. Anither way to save money is stop letting everyone in the Secretary of State Office keep adding their name to the signs at each and every State license bureau. Each time someone else gets in that office the old signs have to come down and new ones up and they add their name to the new sign. How much is wasted putting signs up and taking them down and making new ones with others names on them? They don't need their names on the signs!
JMHO.

Be warned about the seat belt enforcement program.

pretty crazy, kinda bad here in Illinois too

The bible tells us to obey laws, and as bad as I hated to wear mine at first it and God eventually saved my life. I was in a very bad accident , I woke up in an ambulance and did not know what was going on. Then after seeing my truck I was amazed I was alive. The man who towed my truck told me out of the 30 plus years he has been towing vehicles he has never seen someone survive a wreck that bad. My seat belt kept me in my seat and from the manual gear shift over to the passenger door was completely smashed up. I praise GOD I put my seat belt on that day. There are alot of worse things out there.

I agree with too much Gov't telling us what we must do or else! Yes, seat belts save lives but my nephew didn't have his on when he hit a tree as a teenager and if he had his seat belt on, he would have been killed most likely, for that part of the car was all mashed in, he was thrown over into the passenger's side! So there are pros and cons about seat belts! I wear mine but if I ever have an accident I'm sure it would choke me to death or cut my head off! I have an older car which has a lap belt and a shoulder belt that hooks into the side where the car door opens and shuts! I'm short and have to have the seat forward to reach the gas pedal and brake! So Praise God if I ever have an accident, which He has protected me from all the years I've been alive, He will still protect me and Cliff, too! God Bless! Betty

You have some good ideas there!

Ma GOD took mine of once also. I had just put mine on when i was about 19 and had made it about a half mile , I was a horrible driver then and ran into a ditch and flipped my truck. My seat belt came off and a jack ripped my seat where my head had been. Let me tell you as you all know our GOD is awesome. And he is still in the miracle business. That was many years ago and GOD has blessed me alot since then also we truly have a great and awesome creator .

Thanks 7centsworth! Our God looks after His children and that is for sure! He has protected me and my family many times and glad He kept you safe from the jack, for if you had been in your seat it would have gotten you! But Praise God and Thank You, Jesus, for protecting us! Amen! God Bless! Betty

This is a topic I can really get on my soapbox over! It's basically the same here in Alabama but probably a lot worse. A couple of years ago it started with a one week Alabama State Trooper "Blitz." We were warned in the news paper and by TV/radio that during that week the Troopers and other law enforcement officials would be coming down hard on the slightest of violations, not just for speeding or seat belts. They made a ton of money that week. It went over so well that since that time we have a "Blitz" here and, a "Blitz" there. Of course they advertise it so that we are warned but it is absolutely ridiculous!!!!! They are so proud of their little money making scheme that they proudly call it the "Taking back our highways campaign." They couldn't care less about the highways, our safety, or anything else! It's all about M O N E Y, and when you talk to some officers (on the side... out of uniform), they will admit it! If they write the tickets, it keeps the higher ups off their backs and saves their jobs! Plus, many of them love the power trip they get to go on everytime they pull someone over. Every Barny Fife police officer in the state is hiding behind a bush or tree just waiting for the opportunity to use his one little bullet (in his radar gun), and aims it in every possible direction. And so many of them, especially some of the troopers, are so doggone COCKY and RUDE till you just want to punch'em in the throat!!!

Y'all are probably thinking that I sound rather bitter over the issue and must have gotten a ticket myself! Ha! No, not yet anyway. Not since I was 17 years old... and that was 29 years ago. Well, I did get a seat belt warning several years ago when the seat belt law first arrived on the scene but I don't count that as a real ticket. It's just the principle of the thing that gets me! Too many people are getting tickets for going only a couple of mph over the limit, not using a signal, or some other insignificant little offense. Most of us, these days, can't afford $100 - $200+ for driving 47 in a 45 zone. It's crazy! I definitely have a lead foot and think the minimum speed ought to be around.... ooooohhhh...... 70mph, or so! This slowing down stuff really cramps my style! :ranting:

Money hungry and greedy is what they are! They put in cameras at the intersections here in St. Louis and send you a ticket through the mail, if you are caught on camera going through a redlight! Sometimes it turns red before you can get completely across, but it gets you coming and going! I haven't had but one ticket (many years ago while job huntin) and didn't deserve that one, but I have deserved others that I didn't get, so I figure that ticket was for the times I accidently ran a stop sign or drove too fast! You can get on your soap box any time, Lisa! Getting money from those who can least afford it in our bad economy is absolute GREED! God Bless! Betty
