Watch digging tec it not about machine but what not to do

ohio fred

Well-known member
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_32hvmIkQQ I know what equipment he is using is not a whites it is about what he is doing at 505 on the film look at his digging techniques. So i hope this will stay for a while and if any one knows this guy give him a kick in the pants On On Look at field before 505 on film.

At 2:17 to 2:24 in the video, where there is a coin spill, it looks like he is putting the plugs back in. Just hasn't pushed them fully down yet, but looks like evidence of putting them back and it doesn't look too bad. The grass lines up, just needs to be stepped on.

I've been to ball fields where there were clods pushed up just like it looks at the 5:05 time mark. Walking over and looking close, have sometimes seen hoof marks, both deer and horses; and sometimes cleat marks from football games in the outfield where chunks fly because the ground is soft.

So I'd reserve judgment until I had clearer evidence. If the clods really are where he did not put plugs back, he does deserve a well placed kick and a talking to.

Yes and around here if the owners see what he left everyone else is out of metal detecting there. He needs to step them flat.I mean seriously look at the filed when he arrived and what he left behind.I know we all have bad holes once in a while but he seems to practice doing it .On On

I agree with Fred, the area looks very flat and undisturbed before the hunt and the 5:05 pictures show alot of mounds not visible earlier. If those are gopher holes, there would had to of been an army of them to work that fast.

What the heck does ON ON mean?

The first shot of the field at the begining of the video isn't the same area at 5:05 in the video. I also think those mounds are too big to be from a plug.
Just my opinion.

I just went to youtube and found the video there. He said those are mole hills. He is going to make another video that shows what he is talking about.

Well that might explain thing but moles here look like little mice don't make holes like that they are under ground dwellers making series of tunnels not volcano holes.Oh well i would hate to be the guy standing there with a metal detector when maintenance or the owner shows up:shrug::detecting:

if you notice he scans the area in the beginning and it flat and big he scans later the moles show up to watch after he says hey look at all the robins eating worms he turned over?It just funny that all nothing more or less but he should bring a cement roller next time Dan-o Have you been out hunting post some pics i cant get out to cold here.

Thats why I think they are pocket gophers. I was just at an old school two weeks ago and one end of the field was full of pocket gopher mounds. I specifically went over to detect the mounds in hopes that they pushed something up to the surface. If anyone where to walk up to the mounds, you can easily tell they were not man made. Grounds keepers don't do anything with the mounds until spring or when school is out so they can poison the gophers and plant new seed.
Lots of people mistakenly call these mounds mole hills.

WE have ground hogs here some beaver a a few gophers some possum some deer but no lion and tigers and bears oh my.It possible if he is more in the country in ohio.I will give the benefit of the doubt. It was posted on another forum above and they have the hanging ropes out.Ok so if you listen what state do they constantly say On On need to avoid that state.

Fred,
Haven't been out since Saturday when I gave my Safari a trial run. I was sick today so stayed home from work. Hope I feel good enough to go to work tomorrow because I was bored as hell today.
It's been plenty warm here, but may be rainy this weekend. It gets dark too early so I can't go after work. Have to wait until this weekend.

Hope you can go like to see some finds from your new machine and how deep it gos and if it finds old sliver or any sliver.Hope you fell better its around 25 30 degress here and snow got cabin fever waiting for a warm day.

This is the guys response regarding folks questioning whether his plugs are the source of all the field damage from his youtube channel:

"That's a good one! Those are mole hills, not my plugs. They were all along the first base line around the infield. They don't show up at the beginning of the video because of the angle."

(so lets cut the poor guy some slack, it looks like he had a great day and is enjoying the hobby)

Often called mole hills, they are really made by the gopher or more correctly, ground squirrels. I too, have been accused of making them while hunting and Ms. J.Q. Public was is no mood to be educated either....... I told her the local Jr. College had a good anger management class that she might want to attend........................she left the scene in a huff and I continued my hunt expecting the local police to show up, but they didn't...........

I've been fortunate in never being confronted by Ms. J. Q. Public. And depending on her approach I would probably be less inclined to be nice, but I do like your response Larry. I think that's why I love rainy, nasty, cold days so much..all the little wimpy busy bodies..are at home complaining about how mean the weather is to them :).

No, but Nancy was with me when we had the encounter, Don't worry about Nancy, she is a real redhead and can hold her own Fred..........
