Water may have killed my 75

Don and Dan thanks. I have the F75 back up and running with a forum member supplied 5"DD he had listed here. WV was good enough to bring to my attention.

Haven't tried getting in contact with fisher but the once and it didn't seem like it was going any where.

So I'll just take it as a lesson learned, get my dedicated water unit. And work towards adding a larger coil for the 75 in the future.

That little 5" coil may look little compared to the 11" hanging off that stick, but that little coil will surprise you as to how deep it will go.

Nothing to lose now on that 11", let us know if you have any luck drying it out.

Good luck with that water machine.

Do a lot of fresh water hunting never again with the 75's 11' coil, lost mine the same way, but lucky for me it's was under warr. and the replaced it. But I took notice of the connector on the coil and always silicone it good, but I noticed that kind of cap thing at the back of the coil and the space wasn't nice and filled in like the new one so I fill it with silicone also but I guess it didn't hold or even if it had something to it, but water got into mine. I don't use the 11" in the water anymore but 5" works awesome like WV62 says and no water problems. Like the 1270, 1265X and 555-D for the water better.

Same for me, I would not shallow water hunt with mine either. Knowing that there could be problem, just couldn't take the chance.

Also the other gentle was also right about the BLACK filler on the back of the coil, the that went bad wasn't like that and the new was filled and smooth with no filler missing.

I would call felix about your coil you never know even out of warranty the coil is supposed to be sealed and waterproof, so if you can't find a crack or user damage then that's a factory defect and they should do something. It's worth a try.

Ok don't take this to the bank, but have a Fisher 555-D 8"coil years ago that i used in the water, couldn't afford a new one back then so I drilled 4 small 1/8" holes and was very careful just to go thru the plastic (REAL EASY AND SLOW) put it in the oven on the lowest possible heat for a couple of hours, the hole allowed the coil to vent the moisture out, I took it out and let it cool and hooked it up and she was still unstable , so back in she went for a couple of hours more , cooled it, hooked it up again and was stable as before the water got in. Didn't seal with silicone used the fiberglass epoxy gas tank repair kit over 4 hole and I am still using that coil today and that was the early 80's (If oven get to hot open the door a crack)

Shooter I may end up trying something like this, I really have nothing to lose with the 11" bi-axle at this point.

Like I said worked for me...

CAJUN got the 5"DD to me in short order.. Thank you

I appreciate all the thoughts and help that went into this thread.

Oh and the Beast? IT LIVES .... AGAIN! :D

Side note. I knew the 5" was small, but dang! Looks like I have a hockey puck stuck to my beast

Thanks again guys

You're very welcome. You'll be very surprised what that 5"dd can do and how effective it is in trashy areas. It may be small in comparison, but there's a lot of fight in that pup ! Good luck and keep your powder dry. CCH

Dang right there is some fight in that little guy. Went to an old park ( may be thd oldest in the town I work in ) that gave up a '24 wheatie and a '42 merc, today ( and yeah hot as hell out thers boys) I grabbed up some copper mems a nickel one quarter and from right between three junk signals I pulled up a '44? Wheatie. Little on the crusty side, but I'll take it. :D

Nice work shooter, at least now we know it can be done.

Ok so I'm giving Shooters oven baked coil technique a go.

I used a small brass drill bit to make three holes all along the spine of the 11" one about 2" from the nose, another an 2" forward of the poles mount location, and last just above the cords location just behind the pole mount.

Wish me luck.

I would think rather than the oven, if it is a nice hot day where you are, you could set it out in the sun on something black for a day or 2 and it may be a little safer. That coil being black and setting it on something black should get pretty hot.

Just a thought,

Good thought WV its not that type of hot up here but that should work also. The older white coils had some air space all over the top of the coil thats why they were hard to keep down when water till they made the solid filled 0 bouncy coils. The F75 seems to solid in the around area but most likely has an air space by the raised spot where it connects to the wand, just my opinion. Don't know how filled they are.

Looks like they may have found the leak.

I got a look at a newer Omega coil today and it looks like the got a seal worked out. Like to get my hands on a tube of this stuff.

Also, the Tek coil in the picture is a 11" DD coil, and the frame work of the coil is the same as the F75 11" DD

Here is the whole coil.
