water resistant coils

I just put together my new x-Terra 705 gold pack and I wanted to know if I can prospect in the rain w my stock DD elliptical 10x5 water resistant coil. I live in SE Alaska and it rains....lol a lot. I also bought a 9" concentric coil that can be submerged but now that I've read up on my new MD I hear DD are the way to go and not concentric. I have a good hunch that everybody will tell me to just go and try them out and learn the machine so I'm on my way. I just didn't want to don't short anything out or damage the coil that is most suited to find the gold.

From my understanding, it will be okay in the rain, it just won't stand being submerged. I'm sure others will respond.

From the FAQFAQ section: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,1068029,1068029#msg-1068029

DD coils perform better than concentrics in highly mineralized ground. On the water-resistant coils, I usually run a bead of silicon around where the coil cover meets the coil, and where the cable enters the coil. I've not had a problem with any of mine, doing that. If it's raining, a bigger concern would be getting the detector wet. JMHO HH Randy
