[attachment 189795 DSC_1974_edited-1.gif]Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer. It's been a long, hard winter for us here as well as most everyone here on the forums. As I speak, Travis is working on some of his metal detecting gear and last night Loren and I got a jump on garden plants....lol. She is such a good little helper. We also have 21 eggs in the incubator that should be hatching around the 21st! Exciting times :) We try to plant a few new items every year. This year we are trying out two heirloom tomatoes (Yellow Pear and Brandywine). Love the taste of those heirloom, but they are not as pest and disease resistant as the new hybrids. We'll see how it goes. We are also trying out brussel sprouts and okra. Neither of which are favorites of mine, but I figure everything home grown is better! Anybody else have spring fever?

Yes I have had spring fever since December! Things here are thawed now for the most part, but plenty of ran, and as I type a bunch of big white flaky things are falling from the sky! :help:
 
We are flooded here, been raining for about 24 hrs with more to come. Flood advisories and warning have been out since yesterday. It is maddening!!!!!!!!!! Think we will take Loren to the movies tonight just to have something to do! Lol.
 
Looking for Noah's Ark, although I didn't get the worst of yesterday's storms, with hail and straight winds of up to 70 miles per hour, I did get lots and lots of rain...was lightning and thundering like crazy! Many parts of MO got bad weather again, but Praise God that it had settled down some by the time it reached my area, as those very strong winds are awful and do or can cause lots of damages! Lots of flash flooding predicted here in different areas of MO, also, because of all the ice, white stuff and rain we've had making the ground saturated until it can't hold any more for now! May God Bless us with an early Spring without too, too much rain like last Spring! Amen! :angel: Ma Betty
 
Speaking of Noah's Arc, here's a few pictures of one built by a guy in the Netherlabnds. This one's built to 1/3rd scale of the original, which was 450' long & three stories tall!

On the issue of Spring...Oh...how I hope it comes soon. I'm about wintered out. Right now it's snowing hard and there no end in sight to winter.
 
I've seen the pics of Noah's Ark and that man has taken a lot of time and money to build it in smaller size! The original must have been HUGE!! May God Bless! Amen! :angel: Ma Betty P.S. There are flood warnings out tonight for the St. Louis area!
 
We are getting things ready to plant too. Liz, we usually go with the Better Boy tomatoes, rattlesnake pole beans, speckled butter beans, putter peas, Silver Queen Corn, crowder peas & pike eye purple hulls, okra, cow horn pepper & banana pepper, squash, cabbage, cantaloupes, watermelons, etc. And when it's time to plant them we also do turnip greens. It has been POURING here since yesterday afternoon. Seems to be slacking up a little bit now.

Come ahead on Rick! You wont even have to sneak! I'll give you a basket to take out there to pick whatever you want. If you need more than a basket, you can drive the MULE out there and load it in the bed to haul it out. :)

Have to ask...what are putter peas? We used to do Silver Queen corn, but have switched over to nk199 and it is sooooo good. Very easy to silk too. We can't really plant here until April 15 and that is a stretch. When does your growing season start in AL?
 
Hi Liz & Lisa, We used to grow Okra on the farm and when washed, cut up, rolled in flour and fried it is good! Not too crazy about Okra being in soup, as it is soooo slimy! Try frying and you might like it! You and Lisa are good old farm gals for sure, and although I used to have a small garden in my back yard, I don't do that any more....I like fresh vegies, but the work is too hard on me and I can buy what little I eat before it spoils!
