The place we were looking for was used in the late 1800's as a stage stop. The wife of the guy that ran the place was killed by Indians here in 1880 and is buried down the road a little way. The building was burned down around WWII time and the site is hard to find, that helps preserve it. I had some old maps that showed about where it was in relation to the the creeks and old overgrown roads. I was looking real hard for any surface Iron or burning evidence in the place I thought it must be. We spotted a flat in just the right area that had burned sagebrush stumps all over and after a little walking around I was sure that this was it. A real nasty thunderstorm was just getting over so when the rain stopped I grabbed the detector and started scouting the site. If you like peace and quiet just take a look at where this place is,.

In just a few swings of the coil I was sure this was it. I started finding old brass stuff and broken dishes were on the ground. I even found a rock that had a bottle melted onto it like a coating of glass from the fire that consumed the place. I was finding a lot of cartrige casings like this old 50-90 that the Cavalry used in this area in the Indian wars.

I had a signal that reminded me of hunting with Vernon in Virginia. I dug it up.

For a second there, I thought I had found a three ringer. It looks a lot like one and even has a hollow base. It is .50 and I am pretty sure it is from a 50-90 but it is cool. Same army, different war.
I was trying to figure out the place and was moving fast scouting when I came across a real nice signal. I think this buckle is part of the tack to hook horses up to the stagecoach. It sure is big.

I found a lot of things and even hit an old wheatie, 1930, but the storms were coming back and Nancy needed to get back to civilization so I left with after a much to short hunt. I had done what I set out to do and that was find the place and scout it out a little. The site has promise.
I would have had more detecting time if the site seeing was not so darn pretty.HH DC
