We Use Our One & Two Dollar Coins Daily....The Proof Is In The Totals :hot:

A lot of other metal detectors don't beep very well on the Loonies and Toonies up here. I have found lots on beaches, in the water and even in tot lots that have been hunted hard. The ACE series & the Scorpion tend to hit hard on these coins. The Infinium gives a distinct warble sound on these two coins. About 10 years ago I sent a complete set of Canadian clad coins to Garrett for the engineers to play with. Just thought I'd pass this on in case you happen to live near a boarder city or in Canada.

Those one & two dollar coins sure add up fast. $368.00 buys a new ACE 350. Heck, we are still in October. I have another 2 months left of hunting.

I sure wish that people down here to your south carried coins bigger than a quarter. If you stopped 100 people on the streets and went through their pockets, the quarter would be the largest coin that you would come up with. If they don't carry them, they can't lose them and if they don't lose them, how the devil can I find them? It's just not fair! Goood going on your part though. Congratulations.

Why don't they use them? All our vending machines are set up to accept these coins. It cuts down on the number of coins needed.

It would be interesting to see how many $1 coins are in circulation as compared to $1 bills in the USA ......Perhaps coins are not being circulated as much , so there would not be as many on the street ....... Perhaps Canada circulates more coinage than bills, or at least quite a few ....?????......Just throwing it out there ....a guess ....Nice finds John ....I"m sure that $1 and $2 coins add up quickly .......When hunting here in the states I probably find 200 quarters to one $1 coin and I'm not talking Silver Dollars either !!....... ..Jim

All of us here in the U.S. need to use the one dollar coins more. Get them out in circulation so more people will lose.. er, use them. I get a few rolls a month and find they're easier to use then digging for my wallet.

Sadly John, in this credit card age a lot of people dont carry money at all. Can't tell you how many times I've seen someone use a credit card for a dollar or less. Some years back I had a book store and I actually had a woman try to use credit card for 35 cents. As far as the dollar coins go, they say that they are too heavy in their pockets. That was true when the dollars were huge and silver, but since they redesigned them, they are slightly bigger than a quarter but now people say that they are too easily confused. Sometimes I weep for the stupidity of my fellow citizens, but don't get me started on that..

Out of about 3000 coins that I've found this summer two have been dollar coins and 6 have been half dollar.

...a joint hunt between our Sun Parlour Treasure Seeker Club in Windsor and the Michigan Treasure Hunters Club out of Livonia. It was a beach hunt and each club planted their own country's coinage. Loonies, quarters, half dollars, a few large Canadian cents by the Windsor club. Presidential dollars, Sacagawaya and Susan B's, quarters, dimes by the Michigan club. Our American friends had difficulty finding the loonies. No one had any problems with the American coins.

However, when I visited a retail big box store in Michigan, the clerk didn't want to take rolled coins and told me that the U.S. dollar coins were not in general circulation so she didn't see many of them. ?????

Why do Canadians have more higher valued coins in circulation. Well, the government decided not to continue production of $1 and $2 paper bills. No choice but to embrace the new coins. I think the same is true in Australia and their coins go up to $5 in value. The makers of trousers/pants love the coins as they wear out the pockets pretty fast. If we don't balance our coins in the left and right pockets, Canadians walk tilted to one side or the other. Just kidding

Even worse, our new quarters, dimes and nickels are all stamped on steel planchets. I found a dime on the surface of a local beach and when I swept the detector over it in discriminate mode, I didn't get a signal. Now when I hunt the beach sand, I go "all metal" mode with my f75 or use my 1280x. Guess I am going to have to put the Ace 250 that I won together for future beach hunts and the Infinium will start to get used in the water once I get back from my Virginia red dirt hunt.

My bounty hunter just loves loonies 257 so far this year and toonies 77 so far.Wish we would go to a $5.00 coin, would beat digging 500 pennies

It is so cool that here in Australia we have $1 and $2 coins (no $1 or $2 bills/notes). The $2 coins are tiny and the dimensions / metal composition of it is such that if it falls on concrete it makes a dull clack clack sound as opposed to a ting ting sound. And if these fall on grass or sand - there is little hope that the 'loser' will find it. Then we come along with our fantastic machines and sweep 'em all up! By the way, we do have a $5 coin but it is not used in circulation - it was one of those special commemorative release of some sort...

Last month was an especially productive day for me producing $600 which is more than my total for the previous six months! With that money I was able to buy the Garrett Sea Hunter.... I love this hobby! This month so far I think I have just over $100 but I haven't gone out as much due to work stuff....
