wedding band

shorty2

New member
can anyone detect a lady's wedding band? I have tried to detect my wife's 14ct band (with diamonds) and my safari will not give any readings. I detect in the relic mode with sen set at 14. I tried all settings and could not get it to read. Any help? Shorty2

Well, I guess I'de better explain better. My Safari will pick up yellow gold, but not white-like a lady's wedding band. My band-no problem. I also tried my Bounty Hunter and my Whites and they did not pick them up either. I tried the small excelerotor coil and the large-the large will pick it up in all metal but the numbers jump from a -3 to 10. Shorty

Is there a small break in the band?

No, no breaks. I went to a jeweler and ask what white gold was-gold with a certain amount of tin to keep silver color. I have found lots of gold rings, silver rings but never a lady's diamond wedding band. I have looked for them where Ladies knew they were lost but never found any. I have never had one to air test or test till this week and none of my detectors will pick it up. Has anyone found any of these rings? Shorty2

I thought on the safari in all metal there was no discrimination. Even in all metal I get no sound or display. Do you use a safari?

Glad you posted this message because I was thinking about getting a Safari for it's sensitivity to gold. Guess it is not using the higher frequencies adequately. Hope you find it.

A friend of mine with the F75 LTD is having the same problem with gold targets, weird...Must be operator error?

On not buying a safari because of not finding gold is a bad idea. I have found gold rings (class rings, men's wedding bands, and other gold rings) the only rings I can't find are the small white gold rings worn by women. I get no sounds at all. I also have a golden u-max, white's mxt, and a bounty hunter, none of those can pick up the rings either. I can get a light noise from the u-max with the 15" coil. Still no one has answered my question on whether they have found one of these rings. I have found silver rings with diamonds, but never a wedding band or engagement band. Shorty.

I haven't found one , but my wife's, a size 5 will sound off and read 23 to 26 in an air test. Onus

Have had 2 so far and they indicated as 27's. Remember that soil and leaching might impact the corona of a metal object in soils. I tend to dig repeating targets

Thanks for the input, and I'm glad someone found one. I still can't get my machines to pick the ring up in air test, in any mode, sen settings etc. It is a pretty expensive ring with one big diamond and nine smaller ones. Oh well guess I'll just look for the yellow gold ones. Thanks again for all the Info. Shorty2

Somewhere I read that the large coils will be less sensitive to small thin gold targets. Did you try a smaller coil by chance?

I've tried coils from 4" to 15" and the other members of our club tried with same results, small white gold rings are almost impossible to pick up. One other note, on my wife's ring( that started all this) had to be cut off for surgery, when they put it back together it rang off with a solid 23 on my safari. I don't know the metal they use to soldier it back with. SHORTY 2

I guess I am proud of mine.. I tried it on two 10K different rngs and sizes, 1 with 3 diamonds, and some other stones... And the other was a Diamond solitaire 1/4k I found... It would pick up in AUTO within 4" in all modes... With the sensitivity at 15 and i all modes they rang in 6-8" with a VDI of 9... the further I got away, the numbers would read from 0-3 & 3-6.. But I tried it in all modes in auto and at 15 sensitivty and worked fine, with the Stock 10" coil..

Ohh and not to forget all yellow gold RANG in great... Men's and womens, along with a thin rose gold ring...

Okay, had to try another test... I placed the two rings on my floor. The re-bar in the concrete is on 6" centers and I put the Safari on 10 sensitivity.. At 5-6 nches above I was getting -3 on iron and dead on 9 for each ring. The rings were 12" from each other between the re-bar centers... Never missed a lick once I got the sensitivy set. In each case I noise cancelled to at 12" to make sure they were testing at pretty much the same set-up but in each of the different modes. Don't know but I sure was glad to see it work on both of these.
