Weekend Finds- Oldest Coin So Far For Me!

ND Digger

Member
Hope everyone is doing fine and diggin' some good stuff! Got time to take out the Safari for a few hours on Sun- after cutting and removing concrete and working on my fathers computer Friday night and Sat. Went to a small country church site that I came across a few weeks ago. The ground was dry, so I didn't know what to expect for depth. The first find was the Cracker Jack "coin"- it was about 5" deep and read at 37. Then came the trio of Lincoln's- 1910, 1919 and 1929. They read from 36 to 38 and were from 2" to 4". The 1910 got me hoping that maybe there was something a little older still to come. I had to call it quits, but decided to hit an area toward the back of the church site before I left. I got a nice strong 35 signal only a couple of inches deep- something I wouldn't dig at a modern site because it would be a zinc penny - and out comes my oldest coin to date and my first Indian head! Thanks for the read and happy hunting.

Congrats!Nice shape too...Them indians hit like zinc..Gotta dig those signals if they are deep.Glad you got out and had some great luck.HH

Good finds, looks like the indian is in really good shape. They just don't put good prizes in the cracker jack boxes anymore ( haven't for years). Keep up the good finds. Ron

Thanks for the reply NiagracountyNY and Ron- I have to go back when the ground has some more moisture and see if I can score some silver.

Nice pennies you got there! I'd tell ya there's bound to be some silver there but after scouring an old site myself all I could muster were three injuns. Somtimes that's all that's left.

Congrats on your finds. That injun is in great shape, not like the ones I pull out.

That IH penny is in great shape! I love finding Injuns. Me and my buddy both found one of those Cracker Jack silverine tokens, they are circa 1930. Where there's wheat there's silver... kepp swinging.

Nice coins dont hit to manny old coins in my neck of the woods. Oldest so far is a few old wheats and an old 64 dime.

Congrats on the Indian Head! It sure looks nice and so do the Wheaties. I'm glad to hear you finding a few goodies out your way. I'd hit that Church Site again real soon since Barber could be the next pull you get from there. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:
