Weekend Finds Update.

James N.D.

New member
The finds will be up around 7:00pm tonight. I have to clean up the Wheats yet and finish the story, so stay tuned. Good Luck and HH till then.

Well, I finally got done cleaning up everything from this past weekend. I would have had it up earlier but a buddy of mine stopped over for about a Half Hour as soon as I got home and then again after I got done cleaning up the Wheats. So now to the Story!

Saturday, Tim and I headed out once again to bring home some more Goodies to add to our ever expanding Collections. We headed back to the area we were at the previous weekend to check out a few other potential sites in hopes of finding 1 good one that would keep producing finds so we didn't have to waste time driving around looking for a good site. We stopped at a Park we found last weekend that we did well at to see what we may have missed last time. We started detecting and I headed right back to the area where I found quite a few Coins before. I found a few more Wheats here and the Good For One Free Game Token, along with the 1957-d Jefferson Nickel. Tim found 2 Tokens, one with a Town Name on it and the other being a Junk Token. He also found a few Wheats.

We decided to go try a Ball Diamond that we eyed the previous weekend and I figured had to be older due to the Old Light Stands made out of Iron. Tim started finding a few Wheats right out of the Car while I only was digging Deep Clad and starting to get a bit frustrated. I finally ventured over to Tim and asked him if he had found anything Old and he told me he had 6 Wheats already. I told him all I had found was Deep Clad and we started hunting again. It was Crunch Time since Tim had taken a lead on Keeper's so I started digging a lot of Coin Signals to see if I could distinguish if the Ball Diamond had been turned or if it had been filled. It must have had been one of these since there was a lot of Deep Clad. Before we left, I finally found 1 Keeper being a Silver Roosevelt Dime that was hidden due to a Clad Coin being over top of it. I removed the Clad Coin and got another Deeper Signal that turned out to be the Dime. Lots of Clad was dug by me since I figured if I can't find the Oldie's, I might as well dig some of the Deeper Clad and add it to the Clad I have so far this year and to keep my hopes up of finding something Old before we left. Tim never found anymore Wheats but there is Oldies there, it just will take a long time to find them, which both me and Tim didn't think was worth sticking around for. So we headed to site #3.

Site 3 was where an Old School had once stood, at least that is what Tim thought. We started detecting and I got a Wheatie within a few minutes. I found an Older Jefferson Nickel, and a few more Wheats. Tim found a Wheatie or 2 that I can remember and a Toy Car. We then decided to hit the road and go to site #4.

#4 was a different Park we seen last time and didn't get a chance to try so we headed to it and started hunting. I wasn't out of the Car but 5 Minutes and got a Wheatie. Shortly after, I then picked up a Mercury Dime. I told Tim what I had just found and we started hunting harder. We started digging Wheats quite frequently which was a good sign, since Wheaties mean that Silver should be showing it's face anytime. We worked and worked at this site and I finally stopped Tim to see what he was finding after a long time. He was working 1 area pretty heavily and he told me he was finding a few Wheats. I told him that I had found a few Wheats and another Mercury Dime. We started hunting again and thought for sure Tim was going to finally kick my butt on this outing. He was digging quite a bit while it was taking me some time to get the Signals that I was looking for. I finally headed towards where Tim was but stayed a good distance from him since I didn't want to take his Hot Spot away from him. I started to find more Wheats and they were starting to get Older. I finally found a 1909 Wheatie which told me that Barber must be somewhere in this Park but where? I continued hunting and after awhile, I stopped and asked Tim if he had found any Silver. He told me a Merc and a few more Wheats. I told him I had found the 1909 Wheatie along with more Wheats. We then started hunting again and Tim ventured out of his Hot Spot towards an area between two pieces of Playground Equipment. He found something and started working it Hard! I came along one side of one of the Playground Equipment area's and started to find a few more Wheats, then a Merc and more Wheats. Then I finally found what I was looking for. A Barber Dime! I stopped and told Tim what I just found and the other finds. He then turns around and tells me that he just dug 3 Barber Quarters in 1 Hole! I almost decided to give up since that was going to be hard to beat and it was in an area I was going to detect but decided not to since there was a lot of Deep Junk present and every time I dug a Good Signal, it was Junk so I walked away from it. It was hard to keep going but if Tim found that then there had to be more and I wanted my share of the Bigger Silver. So I kept digging Wheats and then got a Signal that I thought was going to be the Indian Head I was looking for. I dug down and out pops a Tag. It turned out to be a Dog Tax Tag from 1904. COOL!!!! That got me going again and we hunted until it was getting late. Before we left, I asked Tim about the Barber Quarters and he started laughing and told me that he didn't get them, he just told me that to get me to work harder. I told him I was kickin' myself for not detecting that spot and almost thought about giving up. I then asked what he found over there and he told me a Merc and a few more Wheats. Later, I laughed about it but that sure brings a guy down when his hunting partner tells him about such a find. We both decided to try yet another site before we left, but after we went to Arby's and stuffed out faces with Arby Melts and Ham Melts and wait out the Rain that was falling. We split the cost and got 10 of them. I saved 2 of them and we headed out to site #5 after the Rain stopped.

Site 5 was another Park which had lots of people every time we wanted to try it. This time, the Rain drove them out and it was showtime. We started hunting it and it took awhile for us to find any Keepers. The Ground seemed to be Mineralized since there seemed to be large amounts of Iron Targets everywhere. I finally found a Wheatie and told Tim. Tim told me that he lowered his Sensitivity down so I decided to do the same. I ran in 16 Semi-Auto when I could but was down to 10 Manual at times due to Electrical Interference. I found a couple more Wheats, 2 Mercs, and a Token. Tim found a few Wheats. We then headed back home and called it a day.

Tim pulled out his finds and he had 4 Silver and a bunch of Wheats and a few other finds like the Tokens and other items. I started pulling out mine and Tim was shocked. He asked if that was my Keepers (the Oldies) and I told him yes. I had more than twice the finds he had gotten which included 10 Silver, 2 Nickels, 2 Tokens, the Dog Tax Tag, 4 Canadian Cents, and a Whopping 47 Wheaties. Now you know why it took me awhile to clean them Wheats, but that isn't all of them. We still have Sunday's Finds to go!!! Tim did well and on the way back he told me "no wonder no-one wants to detect with you" which I got a good chuckle from. Tim knows his machine just as well as I do so when we go out together, who knows what's going to happen and who is going to find what. Were that good and we really make Rick(ND) proud of us since he calls us his boys. So, enough of this, we better get to the Sundays Hunt or this will never get finished.

Sunday, I was Solo! I didn't want to venture out far so I took Tim's advice and hit some Road Construction going on in Fargo. He told me that there was Plugs everywhere but he still was finding Wheaties and also got a Neat Old Toy Car and a Silver Quarter. I figured what the heck, why not! I didn't get going until later in the afternoon since I was debating even about detecting there but finally told myself I better try it. I'm glad I did because I found a Neat Lead Soldier, a Charm Coin with Teddy Roosevelt, a few Misc. Items, a Silver Roosevelt Dime and 20 more Wheats. I called it a day at 7:00pm when I could have detected another 2 hours. But I'll be back again this coming Sunday. So now to the Totals and the Finds.

Here we go! I found 11 Silver this time out. They consisted of 1 Barber Dime dated 1908, 6 Mercury Dimes dated 1917,1919,1920-s,1943,1943-d,1945-d, and 4 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d,1946-s,1947-d, and 1964-d. I dug 2 Older Jefferson Nickels dated 1946 and 1957-d. I also found 4 Canadian Pennies again and they are dated 1927,1934,1941, and 1953. These are in the Pic with the Nickels. The Wheats and the Tokens will be in Part:2. For Misc. Items, I found a Junk Watch, an Older Key, some kind of Pendant that had 2 Compartments in it, which 1 is in it and the rest of it is directly shown above it (the 2 round items). I also found a part of a Pin that reads Souvenir on it, a Key for turning a Clock, the Lead Soldier, the 1904 Dog Tax Tag, and another Religious Pendant. That's the finds for Part:1. Part:2 will be up later on. I may wait until early morning to post the rest of the finds which will be the Wheats and Tokens since I am getting tired from being out in the heat all day today. I have to scan the Wheats after their cleaning and that's it so stay tuned! Thanks for looking once again and Good Luck and HH to you on your hunts. More than a few! Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

Well, here is the rest of the weekend's haul for Coins. I would have had it up this morning but my Computer wouldn't cooperate with me which was tickin' me off, especially when I woke up an hour early to do the post. I found 3 different Tokens. The first one reads Good For One Free Game on the Front and on the Back, it reads Awarded For Skill Property Of Machine. I got a kick out of this Token because it sounded like it was awarded to me because of how well I was doing on Saturday and now it was the Property Of The Explorer XS. The Second Token has ACCEPTED on the Top and reads Ral Ciation for Ep Epsy. I don't think any letters are missing so I don't know what this gibberish means. There is a Boy with a Bat also pictured. On the Back, it reads REJECTED on the Top and shows a Boy walking away with his head down and hands near the pockets. Weird Token if you ask me. The 3rd has Theodore Roosevelt on the Front with 1858 on the Left and 1919 to the Right of Figure. The Back reads Charms Coin 10 Charms Candy. I found 67 Wheaties this time out which 47 of them came on Saturday's Hunt. Almost an entire Roll of Wheats in one day is something hard to do now days so that is an accomplishment in itself. They are dated No Date (can't make out the last 2 Numbers),09,13,14,15,16,18,18-d,(6)19,21,24-d,25,(2)26-d,28-d,29-d,(2)30-d,33-d,34,(2)35-d,36-d,37-d,39,39-d,(2)40-d,41,41-d,(3)44,(4)44-d,45,(3)45-d,(2)46-d,47-d,48-d,49-d,50,50-d,51-d,(4)52-d,(4)53-d,54-d,55-d,56-d,58-d. That's it for this time so hopefully I do well again tomorrow if I get out. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you this weekend as well.:detecting:[attachment 100971 DirtyTokens.jpg][attachment 100972 CleanedTokensFront.jpg][attachment 100973 CleanedTokensBack.jpg][attachment 100974 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 100975 CleanedWheats.jpg]

That is a big load of silver buddy. Congrats on all those shiny coins:thumbup: Man it's fun to see it at the bottom of the hole isn't it.

Hopefully, I will bring back another load of finds from this weekend. There's been a lot of posting going on so it almost got lost in the shuffle. That and how I posted it is why it was almost looked over. Thanks for the reply Bryce and Good Luck and HH this weekend if you get out and do any swingin' of your own.

I have started to use a Plastic Bristled Brush that you can get from Walmart that is found in the Automotive Department that is for Detailing. I wet the Coin and then put some Dawn Dishsoap on it and then wet the Brush and then just scrub away. I use the Brass Brush also but now will only use it if the Coin has a lot of Green Crud on it that won't come off with the other Brush. Thanks for the reply and hope this answered your question. Good Luck and HH to you.

MY GOD JAMES YOUR ON FIRE, THAT IS SO NUTS :yo:11 SILVER MAN DONT STOP KEEP IT UP HH...PHIL

Glad you liked the haul from last weekend. This weekends haul is smaller but there's some Goodies in it so hopefully after work tomorrow, I can get the Post up. Good Luck and HH on your next hunt Phil.

You just don't go out and find that many Wheats, especially 47 of them in 1 day. Must have ate my Wheaties before that hunt that's for sure. I bet I could do that again if I did a return trip to that spot but won't know probably until fall so it will be a bit cooler and then I can Pattern it and see what else is lost. Glad you liked the Wheat Field Phil. Now get out there and find yours! Good Luck and HH!
