Weekend Finds

WessThompson

New member
Well I got out for a couple of hunts this weekend. One yesterday at an old homestead (no longer there) in a plowed field.

The today I hit another old homestead here in Kingston.

My most exciting find was what I believe to be an 1812 British Naval cuff button...but maybe you experts out there will correct me on that!?

I also found an 1857 half penny bank token, an 1887 dime, an 1874 indian head (not pictured), 1899 and 1919 large cents (not pictured), a musketball, a shoe? buckle, and a few other odds and ends. Anyone know what the U-shaped item with the hole drilled in it is!?

Thanks for looking

Wess

Hi Wess. Great finds. The object that you are asking about is the nose cap or forend cap of a muzzleloading rifle or pistol. From the size of it I would say rifle. Usually made of brass and was attached to the wood stock with a rivet.
