Once again, I hooked up with Tim on Saturday in hopes of finding more goodies to add to this years totals. I don't know what any of the totals are so far so I figure I will wait until the years end to tally them up. Anyways, Tim and I headed out Saturday Morning hoping to find some Old Coins. We were headed to a Fairgrounds that Tim and Dan had done good at years ago with Silver but I only had been to twice and only found a few Wheats so I didn't know what was going to happen. We arrived with a Cloudy Sky and Rain in the forecast. We started detecting and didn't get any Rain until later in the morning. There must have been Wind Gusts of up to 40 MPH while the Wind had to be at least 20 MPH at all times. At first it started drizzling but then it just started Raining and Raining and Raining. By the time we were done detecting on Saturday, we had been soaked about 3/4ths of the hunt. I am unsure of what Tim found for sure on Saturday, but he did have some Wheat Pennies, a Merc I think(could have had more Silver but not really sure), a $1 Gaming Token for a Casino, and possibly an Indian Head. I got into an area that started showing a Wheat here and a Wheat there but it was pretty clean for Oldies, at least I had thought. I finally found a Merc, and then a Roosevelt Dime shortly after. Then another Wheat. I found a couple more Wheats and then decided to just keep walking straight up to a Fence in the distance. I then found a Merc, then a Silver Canadian Dime, and then another Merc, 3 Silver in a row in a matter of a minute or so. I thought I was going to hit it big here but it died off just as fast as it heated up. I got a lot of New Quarters, Dimes, a couple of Nickels, and some Pennies at the far end by the Fence that were laying on top of the ground, visible to the eye. I also found a Silver Plated Earring on top of the ground where the newer Coins were. We finally had enough of the pouring Rain and packed up and left after about 6 Hours of being constantly Rained on.
On the way back though, I had Tim stop off at that Cemetery I had found a Token, a War Nickel, and some Wheats at the weekend before. We detected here for about an hour and Tim found a couple Wheats and possibly an Indian Head but not sure due to how corroded it was with green build-up. I ended up finding 3 Wheats and a Mercury Dime.
We then headed over to a Church nearby that Tim had found a few Coins at before and Dan had found a Barber Quarter at before. Tim told me it was going to be tough since they only got a couple Coins from there but I was up for the challenge. I was soaked for about the 4th time and let me tell you, it was getting old. I started hunting and shortly after got a Deeper 5 on Digital next to the Parking Area. I dug it and out popped the War Nickel. I then started detecting in an area where Tim told me he had found a few Merc's before. I got to the other side of this area and got a Deep 25 on Digital. Dug it and out popped the 1907 Indian Head. There was another Signal about 10" away from this one that gave me a 26-27 on Digital with good Tone and it was Deeper than the Indian Head was. I tried digging it but couldn't locate the Target. I was getting different Pinpoints at different Angles so if it is a Coin, it is either on Edge or Angled. Also, if I am right, it would most likely be a Barber Dime due to the fluctuation in the Digital Display and how Deep it was. I covered the Plug up since it was starting to make a bit of a mess and told Tim about it. He wanted me to go dig it again but I told him I would just wait and come back when it wasn't Raining and try and locate it. We headed home after this.
Sunday, I decided to stay around the area since Gas Prices are so high. I stopped off at a spot in the morning and did alright. I managed to find a few Wheats, an Indian Head, 2 V-Nickels, a Merc, and an Older Canadian Penny. After a few hours here, I headed over to my brothers for a bit. I needed to do some Painting on a BMX Bike Frame so I can Clear Coat it on Tuesday.
After that, I was going to go home but figured since I was in Fargo, I would go try Lindenwood Park out again. Still having the 11" Pro Coil on, I started detecting and was interrupted by a kid. I took off my Headphones and he told me his Mom just lost one of her Earrings and wanted to know if I could find it for her. I asked the kid if it was Gold and he said yes. I told him I doubt I could find it but decided I would try none the less. I went over to where his Mother was and she pointed out the area where she had lost it. I told her I wanted to see the other Earring so I could see what it would ID as. I turned the Probe on and waved the Earring across the Probe. NOTHING! I couldn't believe I couldn't pick it up. It was the size of a Quarter, Loop Type, and the Probe didn't make a peep. I tried All-Metal -16 and Nothing! I tried Jewelery Mode and Nothing. I even tried Learning it and even hitting the Earring against the Probe but Nothing! I told her that my detector wasn't even picking up the Earring. I tried detecting anyways in hopes of hitting it with the Coil but no luck. I told her I had a friend that had other metal detectors that may find it and asked for her Address. She wrote it down and I told her I would come back Tuesday and try and find it either with another detector or I may have to Rake the area in hopes of finding it that way. I told her that if they cut the grass before then, it will be most likely a lost cause since the mower will most likely find it and launch it who knows where. I then headed out into the Park looking for some Old Coins. I detected for a bit and found 3 Wheat Pennies and a Merc. 1 Wheat Penny had Iron and a Pull Tab in the same area, very close to the Penny, and yet the 11" Coil gave me good Tone, Signal, and ID and it was about 8" Deep. I thought Screw Cap but it was a Wheat Penny. VERY IMPRESSIVE! I would have stayed here for longer but the Mosquitoes were bad. I would walk into a shady area and immediately have 50 Mosquitoes attacking me. I even had OFF on and that didn't stop these blood sucking buggers. I packed it up.
I then decided to give Island Park a try again but had very low hopes of finding even an Old Coin here. We have pounded this Park to DEATH and it takes HOURS just to find 1 Old Coin if your lucky. About 15 minutes into the hunt, I got a 28 on Digital that showed close to Surface on the Depth Meter. I figured New Coin so I decided to retrieve it. I got down and started using the Probe to locate it. I turned out to be right on top of the dirt and it wasn't a Coin at all. It was funny that I didn't see it standing up but it turned out to be a .925 Bracelet with the word Cutie in it. Silver Baby! After that, I detected for about an Hour and a Half and finally found a Wheat Penny that I thought for sure would be a Zinc since the area found had some Playground once and had been removed 2 years ago, thus thinking a Deep Zinc. Glad I dug it. My Battery started dying so I packed it in and headed home.
My totals were these. I found 8 Silver this weekend. They were 6 Mercury Dimes dated 1918-d,1924,1927,1941,1943-d,1943-s, 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1959-d, and 1 Canadian Dime dated 1964. I found 3 Nickels as well. They were 2 Liberty V-Nickels dated 1899 and 1906 and also 1 Jefferson (War) Nickel dated 1944-d. I found 2 Indian Heads dated 1901 and 1907 and also 1 Canadian Penny dated 1936. I also found 20 Wheats and they will be listed and shown in Part:2 coming up along with the Misc. Finds. I hope that everyone that has the New Coil is finding it to be very impressive and have some nice finds found under it's Coil. Minelab does need to make a Coil Cover that covers the entire bottom so it doesn't get snagged on branches and such, but other than that, WHAT A COIL! Hope you enjoyed the read and Good Luck and HH to you all on your next hunts.[attachment 96830 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 96858 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 96863 DirtyNickels.jpg][attachment 96856 CleanedNickels.jpg][attachment 96835 DirtyIndiansandCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 96861 CleanedIndiansandCanadianCent.jpg]
