You are just plain lucky and can fall in a water puddle and come up dry. I don't think it has anything to do with knowing your XS and every little squeak it makes, maybe it does as you do know your XS better then anyone I know and do get some great finds, just wonder what you could do with a E-Trac if you knew it as well as your Explorer XS.
