Well, 84 is still closed to the state line of Idaho, Utah. So going to take bypass to Poctella and come back down... Beverly is not a happy co-pilot..

If you find good food and a six pack that will take your mind off the weather, keep the drapes closed in the motel and watch some sorry TV, thats all they have now. What we need is global warming they promised.

Having 84 closed is nothing new around here---I live 30 miles from 84 and the Gorge and lots of time 84 is closed from Cascade Locks and 84 is shut down tight and not a speck of snow where I live---It happens every year---I might try to hit Northern Nevada The end of January to hunt for Nuggets and Meteorites and meet up with a friend I have known since we were kids and Hunt with our detectors But it will depend what 84 is like--- I wont go unless I have 2 sets of Chains---It can be decent weather going down and in a day or so it can change to 2 feet of snow trying to get back---I have some really good tires (pd $1650) They have gaps between the groves that your thumb will slide through making them almost as good as chains, I get them from Les Schwab and IF you DON'T use them he will give your money any time you want it ! I think they will cost at least $225 to $275 for 2 sets---Charlie you should always have that much moneys worth in beer and whiskey so you could camp out for at least One Day along side the road and be Very (Very (Very) Comfortable, just like you always are !

that is one mean stretch of road. You remember the scene in Excaliber,, when he rides his horse across the dragons breath..?? I felt like I did that several times when the wind was blowing the snow so hard, it looked like I was driving on a cloud.
I now have chains, but plan on getting some good snow tires( traction tires as they say out here :) just as soon as I get back.... which should be tomorrow.
