looks like detecting in va. is pretty much going to be history.
i don't think anyone is going to stop them. i just a saw comment that came from a representative that initiated the bill on another forum.
here it is re-posted:
"I developed this bill in response to archaeologists' concerns that relic hunters are coming to Virginia in reponse to web site advertisements and there is danger that archaeological sites will be destroyed."
when this thing passes, anyone in va. detecting better have a written permission slip signed and dated by the landowner on their possession.
the crazy part is, they are going to charge buyers and/or sellers of any of these dug antiquities with a felony class 6, if they puchase and/or sell over $200 worth within a 90 day period. so, they're trying to elliminate the market, the value, the supply and demand, (period). what are the retail relic shops going to do with their dug relics for sale?
oh, and this includes coins too, any artifact, any remain dug.
it's ok you know, to destroy these atifacts with new roads and other projects. and it's ok to let this stuff corrode, rot, and dissinegrate in the ground, which it's doing right now. almost anything is ok except letting an individual save some history and have some fun doing it.
well, if this passes, and i'm pretty sure it will, it's adios my friends.
