looks like detecting in va. is pretty much going to be history.
i don't think anyone is going to stop them. i just a saw comment that came from a representative that initiated the bill on another forum.
here it is re-posted:
"I developed this bill in response to archaeologists' concerns that relic hunters are coming to Virginia in reponse to web site advertisements and there is danger that archaeological sites will be destroyed."
when this thing passes, anyone in va. detecting better have a written permission slip signed and dated by the landowner on their possession.
the crazy part is, they are going to charge buyers and/or sellers of any of these dug antiquities with a felony class 6, if they puchase and/or sell over $200 worth within a 90 day period. so, they're trying to elliminate the market, the value, the supply and demand, (period). what are the retail relic shops going to do with their dug relics for sale?
oh, and this includes coins too, any artifact, any remain dug.
it's ok you know, to destroy these atifacts with new roads and other projects. and it's ok to let this stuff corrode, rot, and dissinegrate in the ground, which it's doing right now. almost anything is ok except letting an individual save some history and have some fun doing it.
well, if this passes, and i'm pretty sure it will, it's adios my friends.

Well if Yellow Stone blows it won't matter anyway. And there is no new world order? Why is every thing common people enjoy becoming a felony anymore?

pretty soon you'll need a permit and inspection to take a crap, or course signed and dated.
they'll want to make sure you didn't smuggle toilets across the canadian border, ones that flush right.
it's out of control, that's all i'm going to say.

D, where in Va. are you? I'm in Southern Fauquier. I sent another letter to my Del. and Sen. over on the relic forum. Rick.

Not familiar with the Va. upcoming legislation, but talking to NJ hunters which had a new law enacted restricts their hunting but has been blown out of proportion. In Pa. we have some restritions rel fed land, on Pa. game lands cannot remove anything over 100 years old( so removing a 1903 barber dime) I would be in violation and of course State parks although huntable in most case do have restrictions. I guess one has to know where and where not to hunt and now we have earth conervatory land so little by little Pa. hunters are restricted also to an extent.

when we have allowed enough foreigners to immigrate here and overun us they can enjoy what we fought and died to protect.
Well......I guess being an Amreican born citizen is just going to be curse soon.
I know...we all should have snuck in to the US illegaly...got pregnant...had a bast@ard child and then MAYBE we would have some RIGHTS.
