Well, here's a thought ~ who'da thunk it...

From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,

Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent ;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.

(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!

A man carries a shotgun for protection of home and family as he surveys damage to his neighborhood in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Metairie, outside New Orleans September 5, 2005. Lawless bands of thugs roamed the policless aftermath of Katrina murdering raping and stealing at will. The U.S. Senate on Thursday voted to prohibit the confiscation of legally owned guns during an emergency like last year's Hurricane Katrina, marking another victory for the gun lobby.

One definition is the past tense of think.

The other is. "A dull, hollow sound."

And another one is computer related.

Here is the "other" definition....

THUNK

(v.) In PCs, to convert a 16-bit memory address to a 32-bit address, and vice versa. Thunking is necessary because Intel's older 16-bit microprocessors used an addressing scheme called segmented memory, whereas their 32-bit microprocessors use a flat address space . Windows 95 supports a thunk mechanism to enable 32-bit programs to call 16-bit DLLs. This is called a flat thunk.
On the other hand, 16-bit applications running under Windows 3.x and Windows for Workgroups cannot use 32-bit DLLs unless the 32-bit addresses are converted to 16-bit addresses. This is the function of Win32s, and is called a universal thunk.

According to folklore, the term thunk was coined by the developers of the Algol-60 programming language, who realized late one night that the data type of parameters could be known with a little forethought by the compiler. That is, by the time the compiler processed the parameters, it had already thought of (thunked) the data types. The meaning of the term has changed considerably in recent years.

(n.) The operation of converting between a segmented memory address space and a flat address space

2 green machines into a tree because some one told them you had to do that to get them to turn on--They turned on but the trees fell down because they were so d$w#@% Heavy but they were real happy because it was the first time they were able to pinpoint a target

by every buncha ARMED gang banging thugs and lowlifes out there ---note: for idiots THE POLICE AREN"T YOUR BODYGUARDS --they are not there 24/7/365 to cover your butt--the crooks pick when and where to strike---I really don't think their going be so kind as to bust into your home or do an armed robbery /rape on you and /or loved ones --when the cops are crusing down your street--do you?---(by the way --if you do think that---then please stop reading this post---because using your brain to think most likely hurts you alot. --p.s. the "good news"is the "nice" guys will be by to bash your gunless / don't know how to protect myself useless brain in shortly. thus removing you from the gene pool before you damage it anymore.)Just my 2 cents. Ivan ---I learned from nature --- theres the eaters and the eatee's-(the living and the dead)-there only 2 classes ----which one are you in when push comes to shove? me I'm the one with the 870 express 12 gauge & #4 buckshot. have a nice day.:yikes:

YES -its really all very very simple the police ARE NOT YOUR PERSONAL BODYGUARDS 24/7/365, they come normally after someone calls them to come(the victim-if their lucky- or a neighbor or a person who finds the "body") the crime has already happened and the crooks are long gone and the "nice officer" does his "job" and fills out paper work -for insurance claims for robberies and takes "reports" looks at stuff --if its an important death type case some labs guys will show up poking and prodding around and REMOVE THE DEAD BODIES and other stuff to catch the crook AFTER they have done their damage. not that the cop wouldn't like to stop the crook ***however since crooks pick when and where--- guess what? they aren't going to wait for the cop car to be rolling down your steet before breaking in because that stops them from doing what they want to do ----like robbing you for dope money, raping your wife or daughter for a thrill/killing you and /or your loved ones because they "feel" like it. BOTTOM LINE ---YOU must protect yourself and your loved ones--and a guns the best way to KILL a CROOK--BEFORE he kills you and or a loved one. they are often armed -- so you have to be able to stop them FAST and QUICK -- get a shotgun and be ready to do your duty as "THE MAN" of the house. Ivan

90% of the guys that had to sell their weapons were active and retired police officers. They bought them to carry in their patrol cars because the police departments wouldn't.

The police departments usually turned a blind eye to this practice because the cops were out gunned by the criminals. The cops spent their own money for their own protection. Once the law went into effect, those cops had to prove that they either turned them in to be destroyed or sold them legally out of state.

I read somewhere that there were close to 2000 weapons turned in or sold out of state. I would be willing to bet that everyone of them belonged to an honest citizen and the criminals still have theirs.

When we'll have to protect ourselves from even the police. The police uphold the law(laws which are passed down from idiots safe and secure and detached from working-class society). I wrote a paper in high school about the 2nd Amendment and the founding fathers clearly stted what their intentions are in letters written which we don't see in the Bill of Rights because they are lengthy. I read a letter by thomas Jefferson on this part of the Bill of Rihgts"An armed Populace is necessary to a free state." He explained in detail that it was a prevntion against outside agressors and a tyranical govt. I'm armed!
