<img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> The old Oklahoma Fat Boy Got my MXT last night <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> I dug in a small garden spot outside the house today and found a lot of junk, nails 2coppeer tags 1chunk of metal of some kind. I hope to get out to an old home site tomorrow and try some real digging. Sure a lot different than the old Liberty II. I am digging everything to see what made that sound, is that the best way? Thanks for all of you guys that offered advise, and answers to questions. Larry
 
Well from one fat boy to another. CONGRATS on getting an MXT.
Lot's of post here for new MXT users. The usual stuff that you see is to place coins and other items as nails, etc. on the groung and check them out for readings.
You should learn to rely on the VDI readings, numbers, and not the verbal discriptions since they can be misleading. Also the confidence blocks will aid you in identifying the percentage that a specific reading is what it "thinks" it is.
Example: A quarter reading a VDI of +85 with a full blown confidence block will 99% of the time be a quarter. Take this into consideration with the depth read and you will soon learn what is what most of the time. But in the same breath don't get to believe that everything is discernable.
Your approach to dig everything, for awhile anyway, is a good idea if you make a mental note of the VDI, depth and confidence block readings.
Read your manual several times and watch the video if you have it.

What video is that and where do you get it? I have the Whites advertisement video but it doesnt show much about any particular unit.
 
I bought a White's MXT video when I got my detector. Not really sure why, but I did. It might be good for someone new to the hobby. Tells all about the controls and functions in each mode. But it don't offer anything that you can't find in the manual with the exception of the actual sound it makes. I would loan you my copy if you want to watch it. Just pay the postage back and forth. Let me know. HH
 
I've had mine for about two years now and I am very happy with it. Take time to learn what it is telling you and you will make some great finds. On mine the
VDI is very accurate as to what is in the ground. I'm sure you will love it also. HH Jabe <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
