The Explorer SE that is.......


I've been thinking about it for a while now (Couple months) and I just Sold My XLT on ebay to help fund the Minelab SE purchase....

And I just bought an Excalibur 1000 like 2 1/2 months ago or soo shame I really haven't had a chance to use it yet do to the weather here in colorado...

I'm sure I'm going to run into the same thing when I order the SE tomorrow wont be able to use it for a little while.....

Hopefully I can get free shipping on it I don't wanna have to Pay an additional $15.00 on top of the price for the detector due to the little xtra's they through in the box...

My main concern is hearing about the Split screen issues Last thing I want to do is buy a $1,200.00 unit and then have to ship it in weeks later for a Recall.....
Or do you all think this has been worked out with NEW STOCK?

I'm will be ordering through Kellyco I buy all my detectors through them they have been good to me for many years now.......

But LOL I don't wanna pay for the Xtra shipping!!!!!!!

And Hopefully I wont need to Buy another one for a Looong Time...

I think between the Excalibur and The SE I should be set ......
 
I think you'll be ok...The split screen seemed to be pretty isolated...I'm doing it exactly opposite...I plan on getting an Excal by summer...work's pretty slow right now...One good thing though, with the bad weather you may be able to get a good handle of the different tones by spring thaw....I'm sure you'll be pleased...TT
 
I got my SE in time for the first weekend in December. I have had it out several times and haven't run into the split screen issue.
 
I also got my SE the first week of December. No split screen issues in the 8 hunts I've been out on. Check Kellyco's web site, they show "Free Same Day Rapid Shipping" on the SE.

Give a small guy a sale instead of the WalMart-type Kellyco. Personal service and the ability to give you some hands on advice and pointers should be important to anyone spending their hard earned money on a detector. If there is a warranty issue, a local dealer may be able to swap your unit out on the spot for a new one as well. Just my opinion and some things to consider before you go giving your business to a big box store.

I had the split screen problem with my SE, it went back to Minelab who replaced the display and no problems since. I have heard of about six incidents here on this forum of SEs with the split screen so it's not many out of the thousands sold, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The worst scenario is it will have to be returned to Minelab and they will have it back to you within a week, they are great people to deal with.

Well here's my go with Kellyco.....

I've lived in Florida for the Past 15 yrs and just Last year Moved to las Vegas been there for a year and was thinking of going back to Central Florida but I was transferred to Colorado.....

When I first got into MDing in (2000) The closest store to me was "Kellyco"
I walked into the store Totally blind as far as how detectors work and what was the best etc.... I wasn't Pressured at all and I was in the store for about 2 hrs asking all sorts of crazy question's Being totally new to the Hobby..........
The sale's guy answered all my questions Gracefully without rushing me.... The sale's Rep made me very comfortable.... That's very important to me.. He showed me Just about every detector they had and took the time to explain all the qualities of them ALL.. "Seriously"
and it was about closing time for them and he worked with me until I was happy with making a decision.......

And my choice was a Whites XLT.......

Then Just a couple months ago when I was living in Vegas I stopped by Minelab to check out their show room and Facilities and after reading everyones posts about their finds with the Excalibur 1000 I knew that I wanted one...

So I went to a local Dealer there yes in the "Desert" of Las Vegas and I felt totally uncomfortable as soon as I walked into their shop.. Not the friendliest or talkative and I inquired about the Excalibur 1000 and They Laughed at me...... saying I live in a Desert and what the Hell am I going to do with it there.......

Well You see I travel alot and go back and fourth to Fla,NY,Cali,etc..
and I wanted a Frigging Excalibur why talk me out of it or treat me like some second class citizen " just the way I felt"

Maybe they didn't like my NY accent " My Opinion" .......

So I knew I wasn't going to buy from them......

Then Minelab Recommended a local reputable dealer But every time I tried to Call No One ANSWERED THE PHONE!!!!!!!! always a voice mail no live person..........

That's when I decided to call the people I originally felt comfortable withand had no Issues with.....

I talked with the sale rep at Kellyco told them what I wanted and it was at my door like 3 day's later.......

Now that I'm living in Colorado I tried to locate a dealer close by to just browse the store but the nearest dealer is 44 miles away from me....
and Not knowing who they are or how there Business is and without driving 44 miles for a possible let down..

I'm going with the people I feel I can trust !!! And BTW !!! YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST!!!! RIGHT !!!

You pretty well summed up the situation for a lot of other folks as well...besides being a forum sponsor, they are a very customer supportive based company as are a couple other sponsers here who I have done business with...IMHO...HH...TT
 
You are right. I had the same problem. Plus with Kellyco you do get alot of extras. Also if you have any questions, this is a great website with alot of knowledgeable people. The explorer is a great beach detector, so unless you plan on doing some diveing you may not want to spend the $$$$$ on an Excaliber.
 
I went to the closest one. I had mail ordered from him before. When I got to his town 150 miles away, I called to get the location. He told me he didn't want walk in business; He was a mail order business. He did let me come to his place since I had driven 150 miles. I made the purchases I went for but not made any since then. Several others on this board feel they get good deals from him. At least one of them goes to his place. I get better deals from the north east and big K. I'll buy an SE soon and will check deals with a couple before I call big K.
 
Modification to the SE to waterproof it...it was a short lived idea but it crossed my mind...there are many old swimming holes in my area that I am really wanting to try...Under one bridge I lost my class ring when I was in high school & in the immediate area of this bridge there are several rocks that have been used for jumping/diveing for decades...Also it will be a great way to keep cool during the summer as temps. are usually over 100 degrees...The water clarity is usually pretty good too at least 10' at worse in the summer...
 
I'm A Certified Diver myself....

And I know of many many swimming holes in Central Florida that date back to Early 1900's if not earlier.. the kind of spots that are of the beaten path a little when every soo many years someone has to tie another Rope to the branch of the tree , 'Cause the old one wore out....

Just the 8 yrs that I've known of this one particular spot due to my wife saying when she was little everyone went there and people are always losing jewelry from the friction of jumping into the river of of the rope.....

Her mom has told me of several spots that There family had gone to soo When I get back there I can work my Excalibur in those spots..

Also know of several spots along a lake we Call East Lake Toho...
that has alot of History of local swimmers that frequently these spots back in the day......

Here's another thing that gets me......

When A person thinks about opening their OWN business they have Dreams... Most of the Time People start of small and build the trust of other's to build their clientele and Grow and prosper due to their hard work and Dedication to the dream........

I'm in businessman myself and and I know that one day Hopefully soon I will be able to Hire several people to run my business for me so I can grow to a larger company and be able to afford More Realty space to house More Items to sell soo that my Company Grows......

Soo All this talk makes me think that when the next Small shop owner prospers enough to expand his Business, What he has to look forward to are
People Knocking him and Bashing him because he made his Dream a Reatily...
Also their is talk about "The Freebies" you get when you order through Kellyco and that they are crap or etc...

I don't think you'll be able to get them elsewhere Right? Without paying for them..... Thats what happens when you Grow a Business...Your able to Pass on some xtra's to your Customer's.....

and Again it helps your business to grow..

I've used mine for about 20 hours already. It works well.
 
I tried a local dealer who didn't return my phone call or e-mail for almost 2 weeks. I didn't feel that kind of service would be helpful when I had an issue.
I tried a 2nd local dealer after researching several brands and deciding on a MineLab SE. He became almost indignant saying, "If that's what you want, you'll spend more time trying to figure out the complexity of that thing than you will find anything."
KellyCo worked with me, answering my questions, meeting or beating pricing and shipped super fast.

The last thing I want is a person Questing my Intelligence they Don't know what my Capabilities are and they need to be more Positive MAYBE THEY THEMSELVES are not Quick witted or mechanically Inclined or able to pick up on things faster then others..
