That was when the pressure tank and other equipment broke through the supporting boards and fell 8' down into the abyss of the 200+ year old well. I had to have a friend come out with a winch truck and lift the water-filled tank and piping out of the well. I then installed a new system and got the well house up and running again. Below is a picture of the old well house while I was working on it. I decided it looked pretty blah, and you can see the old roof laying there on the ground, all weathered and pretty much spent. So I decided while I was working on it to spruce up the well house.

Pictured below is the new well house, which I have dubbed "THE BEST LITTLE WELL HOUSE IN VIRGINIA". I decided to do it in a Greek Revival style; add a little paint, a new roof and some shingles, and voila! Sarah helped me put the shingles on, and Lee and Sarah both helped me paint it as well. I also added a circa date of when the house was built. The hand dug well was probably built about the same time. Below that is a couple more pictures of the well house. Thanks for looking.
