Welp, Minelab has new price increase

The Minelab Excalibur will be increasing in price

Minelab Americas is announcing a price increase to the Excalibur 800 and 1000. The price increase will be effective February 21st 2011.

Current Market $1,199.00 MSRP $1,395.00
NEW PRICE $1,299.00 New MSRP $1,475.00

If you are thinking of a new or replacement You should get it before they go up..............WE have and will continue to work with lay-aways.

Everyone will be blaming Minelab for the price increases. But it is not Minelab. The US Federal Reserve with their printing of money has devalued the dollar and so the price we pay for everything will be going up.

Thanks for the warning and I'll be ordering a new Excalibur II from you soon Joe.

I posted that last post thinking that it was going under the dealer that said that they have a signed contract with Minelab and have to sell at the new price.

The ones that you will find for $800 will be the HONEST dealers that had them in inventory before the price increase.

Also,I contacted Minelab and this is some of what they told me......It is company policy that we dont discuss what our R&D team is working on.

What we have announced through our dealer network, is that the Sovereign GT will have a small price rise, due to mounting costs on parts and manufacturing.

Best regards,

Humm...... A SMALL 25% increase due to mounting costs on parts and manufacturing.

This whole thing is a joke.

If that was honestly the case than ALL units should have gone up 25% or more, right?

And if you look at the Safari which is basically a beefed up Sovereign Gt with better and newer technology, more frequencies,a bigger coil, etc.it is a $100.00 cheaper then the 10 year old out dated old technology GT?

It would make no sense for Minelab to discontinue the GT .But it would make sense for them to improve it.If that was even possible?

There are a lot of people like myself that prefer it over the E-trek on down to the Safari,so why would you discontinue a solid winner?

Toner ID as accurate as the GT blows away all the misguided crap that comes on a screen and wastes your limited time in the field.
And the 17 frequencies seem to work a lot better and deeper than one or two or 28.

If 28 frequencies was so great,why didn't Minelab make a 28 frequency Excaliber 3 ?

That would have been the mother of all waterproof detectors.

28 frequencies just has too much going on.

So because I'm an @#$%&,I Assume that the price increase is to make way for a newer Sovereign and Excaliber ( maybe add some multi pulse sensing to it or something fun) and to pave the way for justifying the cost when it comes out?

Or since I'm being an @#$%&,maybe the GT and Excaliber sell better than all the new junk that they have been putting out from the e-trak on down and that their just flat out greedy bastards taking advantage of the people who help build their company?

Only time will tell.

Again a $200.00 increase on a 10 year old detector,give me a break.

This is even beyond simple greed and insulting our intelligences.

Did that over a year ago. Not a whole lot, but enough for a cushion if hyper inflation kicks in.

Also, look at the US mint website. They are no longer making silver and gold eagle coins: there is a shortage of silver and gold. Their rationale? the demand is too high! CAUTION everybody! US MINT

If you are upset about the price increases by Minelab, wait till you start paying 5 bucks for gasoline!

It all comes down to the FED (foreign bankers) who control our money value. They have been inflating the money supply so much that there are so many US federal reserve debt notes around the world that they are worth way less than they were just a short time ago. We Americans are being robbed by those banks through inflation.

If we had real constitutional debt free money not issued by foreign banks, then we would not have the price rises of everything including Minelab metal detectors.

Minelab has the right to set prices as they see fit. If you don't like it, then there are other manufacturers out there to buy from.

Joe is warning us and I thank him. I will be ordering an Excalibur from him before the price increase.

IMHO my excals are worth more than twice what they cost & should I need another I would buy one in a heartbeat:thumbup:

I see an increase in the pricing one model at a time over the entirs line.

If they increased all the models at the same time there would be more of an uproar.

I heard comment about the Safari and Explorer SE, But what about when the price returns to normal.....Right now it is at christmas price.

A friend and I were just discussing the possibility of an across the board increase in all Minelab detectors. What about the accessories and coils, will those be next, or is there too much competition from the after market sellers?

Judging by the comments on this forum most think that the price increase is OK. Justified by the dollar. Justified by our finds. Whatever! If I was Minelab after reading this forum and others I would jack all the prices up. The Safari and Explorer will be next. Next years Christmas special will be the return to the older prices. Most will rejoice and buy buy buy.

I don't think so. A metal detector is an option not a necessity. Let the economy get where people struggle to pay their bills and you will see sales drop. It not a good time for a price increase on something you don't have to have. It just hasn't got bad enough yet.

You hit the nail on the head JHM I was going to buy one in a month or so...but if the price hike go's into effect..it will put it over my budget .I will need to go elsewhere i guess. not too happy with them at the moment

From the Published Annual Report 2010 of Codan Group, the holding company of Minelab and 2 others corporations. I put into bold the things of interest to me.

If you would like to download and read the entire pdf document, Google "Codan Group Australia" it is listed on the homepage of the website. Look at the bar graph on page 4, estimated Codan 2011 operating revenue is predicted to be 160M down from 2010 by 29.3 M. Could this be the impetus for the price increases? From reading the Key Initiatives 2011 it looks like some new Minelab products are in the works.

My intelligence is not insulted-I know that the dollar is decreasing in value making all things more expensive to manufacture but the bottom line is no one is forcing anyone to buy their products. BTW FYI it is excalibur:thumbup:
