Went detecting today...in my own yard...for my own ring...

yeah one would think those who find other people's rings wouldn't lose their own.

Spent the other day working outside. Trying to get some things working...like snow blowers, move lawn mowers to a storage area, cover the motorcycle, work in the garage, rake some leaves by the house and in the back yard. Someplace I lost a ring...one that belonged to my Dad for his either 25 or 30 years with Saginaw Steering Gear - Local 699 of the UAW. Big ring, gold colored with a red stone in it...and I've lost it.

It is a mixed bag for me. From a Christian standpoint...its just a ring...no big deal. A part of me...maybe because he died Thanksgiving morning last year and it is almost a year since...the ring means something more.

I tried locating it today without any luck. Detecting in the back yard is like detecting for landmines...except the landmines are from the dogs we have using the yard....yeeccchhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, hoping to find it eventually. Sure got a lot of 'hits' in the backyard...never detected back there before and since I was looking only for the ring I guess there might be some coins to be found back there...if I want to risk the 'landmines'. I'll try to find the ring in one of the other areas first.

Hope everyone had a chance to go detecting or do some relaxing or got some venison for the freezer.

from some of the other michiganders up there.

Did ya check all the areas around inside the garage? Maybe it fell off while you were putting stuff in storage etc??? I hope ya find it buddy!
And yes I got something for the freezer! :)

mostly in the garage I moved items around so I could put the lawnmower further in the back out of the way and get the snowblower and generator out where they would be easy access. Don't think I took my gloves off in the garage and probably would have heard that big ring hit the floor. I had the gloves on and off outside. Got things moved around now where I want them for the season..so hate to move things around again until spring.

If I do go find it now...with winter coming I'd probably lose it taking off my gloves again...but who would know where. At least for now I know it is on our property and no one else is detecting it

I can tell you the Garrett was not happy with me at all by the time I went through those leaves and the backyard where those K-9 landmines were. Garrett got a good bath!!!! Never pays to wear hiking boots when in doo-doo areas...those grooves are a pain to clean.

Think I'll just wait for Spring then re-detect the whole yard. Then I can use the garden hose to hose off the detector and boots (had to put the hose up for the winter as its dropped below freezing and some small ponds had a skim of ice on em this morning).

Too bad Leslie's not near you... He has a lot of experience hunting in the doggy dew :) One good thing is that it's a big ring and it's most likely sitting right on the surface somewhere. I'm sure it'll turn up.

Check inside the gloves too! :)

a few years ago, I was hunting in the back yard of my mother and father-in-laws house and I got a good repeatable target. I dug it up, and it was my father-in-laws gold wedding ring that he had lost 15 or so years before that. The good thing about losing one recently, and especially if it is a large ring, is that it will really sound off loud, being right at the surface. Did you rake the leaves into a bag? Check the bag? Maybe a pair of gloves? I'm sure it will turn up. Be patient!!!!

the pile in the front yard didn't seem to have it so hoped the backyard would be better. Swinging the coil through leaves isn't too bad...unless ya rake up more than leaves like in the backyard.

One would think that after having already detected all the yard except the back there wouldn't be many signals. I was more than surprised to get lots of loud signals. Seems Casey loves her chewing gum and apparently our yard is the trash disposal for her gum wrappers. Wouldn't ya think if someone KNOWS you metal detect and KNOWS gum wrappers are trash...never mind...I forgot 'teenagers don't think' they just do. No logic or reasoning power in their heads so guess my question was a dumb one

It will turn up eventually. If I could get the leaf blower working maybe I could get rid of the leaves and detect the area a little easier. We're expecting snow in a day or two so it just might have to wait til spring.

We could do both :)

Won't give you the backyard ... that might wait til the Spring rains wash it down.
