Florida had any where from 250 to 400 Forts built across Florida during the 3 Seminole Indian wars stretching from about 1816 to about 1850. These forts were built a days march from one another so the Soldiers could easily reach a Fort in a days journey. My boss, Dwayne thinks that he had the area narrowed down and with the use of the internet and Google Earth, we finally decided that a visit to the most likely area was in order. Since the area in question was on a point surrounded by water and a golf course encroaching on the other side, the only easy access was going to be by boat. I borrowed a Canoe and we loaded up this past Wed. morning and headed out to see what we could learn and possible pinpoint the location. Arriving at the "spot" we looked the area over carefully for any reason that said "do not enter" and since we never found a reason not to explore, we pulled the canoe onto the bank fired up the machines and set out to see what we could find. It was a beautiful Florida day with the highs eventually reaching 78 degrees. Beeeautiful !

This is a look at the point that may be hiding the Fort that we are looking for. Looks reallllly promising.

Another beautiful view. makes you want to grab a detector and dig something!

You can see it was low tide when we got there. We are just scouting the area right now.

In this picture we are looking over a large salt marsh and of course they don't build Forts in Salt Marshes. We had to find high ground and it looks like it may be over there.

We made it to higher ground and it looks promising. Time to bust out the detectors and dig a few holes. Looks like a tight area to be swinging a large coil so I'm gonna hit it with a 6 inch excellerator coil and see what happens.
