Went looking for old coins today at the beach...found a very interesting foreign coin, but I need some experts from this forum to ID it, please

Both coins were found in dry sand.

I 'm so curious as to the ID of the larger coin,

The Danmark coin metallic composition is : 97% copper; 2.5% zinc; 0.5 tin ...and is worth about $0.10 in American currency ( if I understood the exchange correctly).

Regarding the larger coin: I can make out the letters A TORI on one side; and ETL ( maybe) on the other.

Don't know whose image in on the coin ( ?obverse/?reverse)

On the other side it looks like a Charioteer with a lance ...not sure which is obverse /which is reverse

Date has a "7" in it.

Here's pics...two more in the following post..not enough room on this one.

Thanks for looking , and and ID help would be greatly appreciated

Maybe 1786

Colonial Coinage

If you have a "Red Book" or an R.S. Yeoman's guide to United States Coins.............check in the post colonial issues. I think it's a 1786, mailed bust facing left, Hercules head copper.

In my 62nd edition Red Book, 2009....... there's a picture of the coin (I think, your pics are real dark on a well worn coin) on page 58, bottom right. Coin value on page 59 on the top of the page shows it's worth about 120.00 in good condition. I'd say yours is about 1/2 of that.

That's my best guess with out seeing the coin first hand. Nice find either way !

Since many colonists were just off of the boat from Britain, the British form of coinage was familiar to all of them so when the states started dabbling with making their own form of currency it was with British denominations because everyone knew what that was and what the value was intended to be.
