Went on my first ever night hunt

CWILK - You inspired me to try a night hunt so I went out last night for a short 1 1/2 hour hunt. The back light on my 1350 worked great and the LED light on my PP worked like a charm in the holes. I did wear a head lamp that I would turn on intermittently when I felt like I needed it. I haven't taken any pic's yet but I will. I scored 19 quarters, 13 dimes and 17 pennies. Nothing to exciting, all clad. I had a lot of fun tho.

I'm just glad somebody reads my posts. 49 coins in an hour and a half at night is an excellent total. I flip my cap light on and off too. I think the light on the Pro-Pointer is too dim. I only find it useful to tell if mine is on or not. Are you leaving the nickels for somebody else?

Are you keeping a log? I'm kind of curious how your year is shaping up.

Chris

Chris, first - I love your posts and look forward to your new one. On to my count totals for the year (this is a long story). I started out in the early spring with my new 1350 all excited as I also set up an excel data base spread sheet to track all my finds and percentages and location of my finds. I spent the entire spring hunting and making entries, I kinda feel like the tracking part of this hobby is the other half of the hobby, for me anyway. Then about the beginning of summer I realized the hard way that the excel program on my puter was a sample and it expired and I could no longer keep it updated, so I went shopping for the program and it was too expensive for me to buy and justify to the wife! So, I was really bummed. My hunts dropped way off, what hunts I did go on I tried to track using the old stubby pencil way, but that soon got old for me. I recently discovered that I can access my work computer from home and we have excel at work so I emailed my tracking spread sheet to my work computer and it worked! The tough part is that many coins were dug and added to my stash that were not recorded anywhere! So I have to hand count everything and enter in my program the difference since I lost it back at the end of spring! I haven't done that yet so I really don't know my averages and stats ( to date anyway). That's the best I figure I can do for this year till I can start out fresh in January with my new spread sheet. I hope I didn't confuse you too much.

As far as nickels go I will admit up front that that is my weakest area, even not knowing my official numbers! I absolutely suck on my nickel counts and I know that's the area I can improve on the most and I blame it entirely on my lack of self discipline! :garrett:

Night hunts are fun! I bet they strike a bit of curiosity to people seeing someone out in a field with lights going on/off intermittently. You did well in the loot department.

Very nice oakman. Wanna try a nite hunt here in Pa. And BTW I read your post too cwilk. LOVE them!! Thanks for posting!!

Try Open Office if you need a free spreadsheet program. You can convert the files to Excel and back so you can still use Office at work and Open Office at home.
