went to the beach with my Omega 8000

I went to the beach with my Omega 8000. In dry sand it ground balanced around 56, in wet sand it would go spastic trying to ground balance, even in a clear area,
I was using the 11" DD coil. Ground balance would be at 00 with no bars showing in the wet sand. Any ideals?
Away from the beach it works great.

Did you manual G B? I have not been to the beach with mine, but if I remember correctly, it won't ground grab under 40. In the wet sand, the G B will be somewhere around 15, give or take a few numbers. HH jim tn

Hi i live in the UK. on the coast ( Blackpool ).
All the single Frequency machines i have had do not like wet sand, even if they have manual GB or not.
My Omega wont GB at all, Manual or Grab.
The simple fact is, for some beaches only multi Freq. machines will work on wet sand.
I have a Explorer SE for beach work.
Hope that is of help.

All machines seem to work on dry sand, no problems.

I tried to ground balance half a dozen times and manual balance. With no bars on ground balance it was on 00 , when I tried to manual balance bars would appear

Naturally, a lot depends upon the search mode used and how well you ground balance to the BAD ground, should you be hunting in mixed ground environments. By BAD GROUND I am referring to not only the level of iron-based mineralization (Fe3O4 or black sand), but you are also dealing with low-conductive salts. I hunt beaches that are fresh-water and lack salt content. I hunt some beaches that run through some alkaline desert areas and have challenges. I've worked salty ocean beaches, and perhaps one of the most challenging, the beaches at the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and those ARE very high salt content conditions!

What beach? Some areas, like much of Florida, are very low in iron mineral but still have the low-conductive salts to deal with.

I know you're not working our more popular coastal beaches as that's not even close to how bad they are! In the upper-reaches away from the surf I might get a GB phase read-out of 78 to 82, and with the Omega I can bob the coil from 6" to

Thanks for the reply Monte
I am in NE Florida
I will try what you suggested as soon as I get back to the beach and report

Once again Monte, you have proved that you have probably forgotten more about detecting than a lot of us will know for years to come. Thanks very much for the insight you shared in that post. It will help me immensely when the time comes.

I made it to the beach today with mt omega 8000
Dry sand GB at 55-56
Damp sand it would overload and not GB so GB was at 00
Wet sand the same
I manually GB between 8-9 bars none to one bar positive
Disc to 55 to get rid of the beep when lowering it to the water
A lot of falsing in the upper ranges nickel to quarter
Back to dry sand GB at 55-56 and working normal
Any idea's???
