took my little guy out to the park today and did some detecting while he played. There were 2 others out there detecting as well plus the ground keeper says he detects the park after work everyday. plus he told me of 2 others who go everyday and detect it as well. so its a popular spot. found out that during the gold rush a china town sat where the park is now and people sometimed find old chinese coins. i didnt find any of those but here is what i found.

Dobbie = good going on the finds ! Sackys are hard to find, much less 2.
In parks that have history there are a couple things I keep in mind. One is the grounds workers cannot bring up the level of the dirt too far up the tree trunks or they will kill it. Therefore maybe older area to detect around the tree well.
Secondly, at the edges of lawns or grassy areas the ground frequently drops down by nature to the pre existing older level. I have dug a number of old coins under hedges at the edge of a lawn for instance. And I also remember digging old coins where the ground drops off on a sharp slope. The cover doesn't stay there. Sometimes the rains wash off the newer fill exposing the older dirt.

Just some thoughts for that park, it sounds good, Steve in so az

thanks for the tips. ya i was stoked. thats the most ive found on one time out. i will definitly go back to it. i found the change under a tire swing thing that the kids sit on either side of the tire. i guess it was a pocket spill or two. i also found one of those machine squished pennies that was from lego land down in so cali. i left it in the car though so thats why theres no pick of it

Those are nice finds, Dobbie. Coins are in great condition!

Very good for a park that is detected all the time! Nice, to get to the pocket spills before someone else does! Finding 2 Sacs on the same day of detecting is great!

One time I was detecting under the swings at a grade school, which has become a JR High now and under the last swing near the posts holding up the swings on one end, I found, the best I can rfemember, about 8 quarters or maybe more! Ya see if you can detect the lost coins first, then it really pays off at times, but I got to where I couldn't get out early enough to beat the earlier birds! And yet I usually found coins in the play areas under the equipment and chips! Children come and go all the time, so a detectorist never knows what they will find when blessed and lucky enough! :)

God Bless & hope you find lots of coins and goodies!
