My metal detecting club had the honor today of hunting on the Brandywine Battlefield in Penna. The club president was contacted by an archeologist to assist her in clearing Revolutionary War relics from a piece of land that a new cell tower was being put in on. We had about 15 members show up to assist in the dig. There were several targets recovered along with a fair share of modern junk.

The Archeologists was great to work with and she seemed equally happy with the assistance we supplied to her! I am waiting for pics of the finds that were taking on another camera. I have some general Pictures of the group and the lay of the land.

We hunted the path to the left of the road back to the high powered line tower you see. It was an awesome feeling standing on the ground were General Washington stood. It was told that he was in the area we were searching overseeing General Armstrong's line of defense to cover retreating forces.

Hope you enjoy the pics and story!!

Great idea to go in as a group to hunt that location .
Helps promote the hobby.
Big power lines above did any one have interference with this ?

What a unique opportunity. Glad you could be part of it. Can't wait to see the pics.

That would be Awsome ! Did you make any cool finds ? Got to be alot of energy there , and I don't mean the power lines ! H H Tom

No interference that I am aware of Joel. Had a couple nice finds will post pics when I get them!

Now that looks like fun with a lot of nice people!

May I suggest you stop by your local Wal-Mart store
and look at an inexpensive digital camera they carry. It comes
in a plastic pack and is around $59 plus another $9 for a 2gigabite
memory card. I carry mine with me all the time just in case. For a
cheap camera it takes good shots and has a built in micro for close ups.
You won't regret the investment.

I guess you were not allowed to take any relics home with you?
Probably not. The camera will let you have a pictorial record anyway.

With the memory card you can just plug it in to your computer and up load to this site. No need for a scanner.

Thanks old katz I had my digital camera with me, but I was busy digging. Our club founder was the picture taker. He is posting them soon. The pics I posted are from my cannon eos rebel. Takes a nice pic. We were not allowed to take any relics home but no one was upset about that. We all understood the significance of the finds and wanted them to be cataloged and displayed at the museum. We had a great time.

I've been to that battlefield but obviously not to detect. Lucky of you to get to do so. What did you dig? Were any Revolutionay War artifacts dug by anybody?

Chris

Yes there was a piece of a rifle ramrod with some wood still attached I am waiting for the photo from our club founder who was the photo taker. Will post as soon as I get it!! Thanks for looking cwilk

Here is the find of the day from the Brandywine Battlefield hunt. It's a French Charleyville ramrod tip found by Carol of Staten Island!! It still has some of the wood still attached!!

Cannon Rebel, Now that's one fine camera. I'm leary about taking my powershot along with me, afraid it might get banged around and damaged.
