I don't post much as I've found I have a lot less time to detect since I "retired" from the office and went to work for myself making knives full time. So, when I do get out to detect I like to make every minute count. Our area has a lot of talented detector operators, so pickings are slim. Today, my detecting partner (Tom Blondell) and I hit the road with beautiful weather scheduled and high hopes. We just picked a direction and decided to investigate some small towns we've never hit before.

Well, we found a small park that on the surface looked new, but further investigation showed it might have some age to it. I started hitting deep wheat's right away and pretty soon Tom comes walking over to me with a smile on his face. I know he'd found something special and then he opened his had to show me this beautiful SLQ. Not only was the condition absolutely stunning, but I knew it was a better date, too. So I congratulated him and resumed hunting, knowing that at least there was a good chance to find old silver there. Within five minutes, I recovered an '02 barber dime and a '23 Merc. Then, within the next half hour, two more silver rosie's. More old and deep wheat's followed and we had to head home, vowing to pay another longer visit and work it thoroughly and slowly. At the car, I started going on about what a beautiful find it was and how it was my favorite type coin (right, Bryce?!), and then he says, you know, you've done a lot for me, and I'd like you to have this coin! Well of course I refused and there followed a good-natured verbal joust about how I couldn't accept and he stating, "BS, I want to give you this". In the end, he threatened to throw it back into the park so I relented.

This is by far the finest SLQ I've ever seen. I'd found another one close to this condition, but never THIS good. My dimes pale in comparison to this find, so I won't post them, but just get a load of this quarter !!! I scanned this at 300dpi, so the detail was as good as I could manage....enjoy!

Terry...that is one SWEET SLQ.

Makes my mouth water:beers:

The digger is still performing VERY WELL and I always use it in places where a tight, precise dig is a must.

Thanks Bryce... I appreciate the "plug"

Really like your knifes from your web site. I went into a resale shop this last week and someone had gotten rid of there knife making tools, Big 1" arbor Baldor Bench grinder. the belt sander with all the pulleys and attachments. She was asking a 1000.00 dollars for everything I think. I know those Baldor grinders 10" or 800.00 dollars. Wish I would have had the money to spare sure look good with the rest of the tools I don't hardly anymore.
