What Am I Doing Wrong

X-Terra 70, Pattern 2, Auto ground balancing.

If I get a good signal in the 40's and then switch to pinpointing I can draw the coil back towards myself and the audible tone continues to sound off for a couple of feet.

What could I do to eliminate this behaviour?

Still new to my machine so I don't understand all of it's features yet.

In pinpoint mode the size of the area that sounds off ratchets down with each swing over the target for the first few passes. So if you "X" over the target before drawing back, it will respond to the target leaving the detection field much quicker and you'll know exactly where the target is.

If your using a Concentric coil do as Longhair said to do.... If your using a DD type coil try this... leave it in your pattern mode, wiggle your coil real tight from left to right and drag it back to you and when the tone stops the target will be at the center of the outer edge of the coil.

G'day, I have observed this behaviour when the sensitivity is set to a high value > 25. I disable/reenable pinpointing, and go slower with the pinpointing process

Your suggestion worked wonders....... I was hunting with a very high sensitivity, after I turned it down the screaming stopped.

Thanks much for your input!

Turn the pinpoint on closer to the target. It will narrow down the field a lot. Sometimes if your right on top and switch it on it will blank out the object. If your really far away it makes the target larger.
