WHAT ARE SOME GOOD SETTINGS FOR MINELAB X-TERRA 70?

doghouse

New member
HELLO,JUST GOT MY X-70 FROM GERRY'S METAL DETECTORS AND WAS NEEDING INFO. ON THE BEST SETTING FOR COIN AND RELIC HUNTING....I AM NEW TO THIS MACHINE(LOST)...ANY INFO. IS WELCOME...........THANKS

Hi and welcome to the X-terra forum.

The best place to start is to read through the Owner's manual if one came with your detector. If not you can download it from the Minelab website.
As soon as you have a basic idea of how this detector works compared to your last one then you will be ready for the best source of information around on the Xterra models.
And that would be the FAQFAQ located up above your post here in this forum. It has all the information you could want about setting up and using your detector.

After that you need to get some hands on time using the detector under different circumstances.
At that point you will be ready to come back and consult with some of the more expert users here about problems that came up or things you didn't understand.

The easiest way to actually get started would be to use the factory Coin mode or Relic mode. They won't get you the best results possible but they will let you get started right away.

There are plenty of helpful people here so don't be shy.

As Tom mentioned, the FAQFAQ section at the top of these posts is a good place to start. The FAQFAQ section is kind of an "index" of some of the more popular posts. One of the first posts I'd recommend you take a look at is one I wrote about 18 months ago on CoinShooting with the X-70. In case you can't find it, here is a link to that post. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,497015,497015#msg-497015

Since writing that post, I've modified my technique somewhat. I hunt for old coins at old sites. And many of the sites I hunt are old farmsteads and homesites. As such, and after a couple thousand hours on the X-Terra, I like to hunt in all metal mode, with multiple tones. You're style may be different. But that post should give you the basics for setting up your detector. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. HH Randy

I'm new with the X-70 also and without a doubt the FAQFAQ files are a great help. I refer back to them frequently and cross reference them with each other as with all "instructors" they all say the same thing using different wording, ones comments clarify anothers and visa-versa..

I also started in coin mode but quickly advanced to AM with muptiple tones. For me the transition to all metal and tones was easy as I had owned an Explorer before.
