Last month I found a cut reale on the beach. Seaweed happened to talk to a man from Va that also found a cut reale. The man gave Seaweed his business card, and I got his E-mail address from the card and sent him a picture of what I found. Looked like a match !! The man from Va was back on the beach yesterday and brought his half. We did some "horse trading" and I wound up with the half. Got home and put them together....BINGO !! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">

Does anybody have any stories on why people use to "hole" their coins?.....I've heard several, but know there must be many stories out there.
For example, were these coins "holed" at the time they were commonly in circulation; or, were they simply old coins handed down from relatives that people chose to wear as jewelry or some kind of good luck token?....Were holed coins used in trade?
Anybody know? <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">

who made coin with holes so they could string them up and not lose them. The habit went to the English and then on to us.
So the old coins since they were so valuable...you could buy 1500 acres for $750.00...went on the string. $750.00 wouldn't buy a place to drop you in... of course dead.
I will be selling Plantations with a pecan orchard for $45.00 shortly along with a Commission as Colonel in the Falkland Volunteer Militia (all Plantation owners were called Colonel) $45.00 and a summer place on the Tar River $45.00 (all Plantation owners had a place by the river). The Plantation will be big enough to bury you if certain criteria are met....when you go of course.
So for $45.00 plus $100.00 burial fee you can be buried on your own Plantation.

I cant imagine the odds on that...WOW...thats what i call a terrific find! Whats the date on this coin (s).....??? I wish i could find the rest of this cut real...only need about 7 more parts ....

Coin is a 177?....may be a 3.
Aaarrrgh.....you got some purty silver there !! Just think, every time a coin was cut, it increased our chances of finding it. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
