What are your detecting goals for 2010 ?

It's about time to dust off the snow up here in New England and alot of other areas (I know you guys down south are still at it - what snow?).
I thought it might be interesting to hear the goals or main items on the wish lists of others.
As I stated in a previous post my goal this year is pre - seated silver (U.S. types). I found three 1/2 reales about a year ago (one a month for three months - made my buddy crazy !), and I found a couple seated in 2009 (1837 dime and nice 1856 half dime). I really want to find some early US silver - that's my goal !!

Snow is melting here today in Southern Wisconsin. I may pull out a screwdriver and test the soil on some southern facing hills. Doubt the ground has thawed but it may soon in places.

I think I need to organize some new sites before setting any goals. Unexplored country is getting hard to find.

Not real high goals but I have not found a large silver, plenty of dimes and a few quarters but NO large silver coins

1. to HAVE FUN:angel:
2. to continue learning:rolleyes:
3. to keep trusting what my SE is telling me.
4. to use "Heavy D"s E-Trac much more often.:)
5. to avoid his phone calls if need be...so I don't have to give it back yet:cool: :smoke:

My goal for the year would be to hopefully find enough change or whatever to be able to afford a minelab excalibur 800, 1000 or 2 by this time next year. If I can get half way to my goal I can afford the rest myself. Oh one more thing I really need a long handled scoop. Cant afford one right now, thinking of trying to make my own, but I deffinetly need one. Just ordered the 10 x 14 DD excelerator coil for my Ace 250 and that is all I can do for now. It may sound greedy to some but it has always been my belief if you are going to do something right, have the best tools to do it with, so that is my goal, to EARN the tools.

My main detecting goal for 2010 is to START! (geez, I wish the snow would melt soon here...)

Where you from, DF? Your reply sounds like I could have typed it. LOL! Central MN here.....

I have three goals for this season:
1) Get into the 1800's with some finds.
2) Dig 25 or more silver coins.
3) Get out as much as humanly possible.

Good luck and HH to everyone this season.

150 silver coins would be nice this year. I think I finished 2009 with around 120 or so and only hunted in the spring and late summer/early fall. I stayed indoors during the 3 hot summer months. Too hot or too cold, I stay inside. :)

There are only a few coins that I have yet to find, so I would like to find them.

Morgan Dollar
Franklin Half
Seated Half / Dollar / 20 Cent (Don't we all want that?)
Bust Quarter / Half / Half Dime / Dollar
Any early Large Cents
Any Gold Coin
Half Disme

One of those coins off that list would be awesome. I think I have basically every other US coin.

I am not particular as to the age of my coins just as long as its silver or wheats. Found 55 silver and 309 wheats last year so my goals are 100 silver and 500 wheats this year.

 learn to use it and get down on the beaches, seeking out the old rather than the recent. I mean to have a good-fun year. Hope all of you do, too.

My goal for metal detecting in 2010 is to STILL be metal detecting at the end of 2010!!!! ---------Del

My 16 year old daughter has a little streak of tom boy in her and has asked me to take her detecting a couple times at an old ghost town that is within reasonable driving distance. We've had fun on our outings. She doesn't seem to mind bad weather or sparce finds, but I need to get her finding some coins and relics on a regular basis to keep that interest up. It is fun having a detecting buddy.

FILLING IN EMPTY SPOTS:

I am still looking for that first Barber Half - I have a bunch of Walkers, some Franklins and even a 60/40 Kennedy, but the Barber Half has eluded me.

I still need a 1922 plain wheatie to fill out my wheat cents.

I found a beautiful 1881-S $10 gold piece while on a club hunt screening with a friend through a burn area in an old ghost town. I'd like to find a gold coin with my detector.

I would like to find some pre-1800's coin. Will need to do a road trip back east for a legitimate shot at that one.

Still looking for that first coin cache.

I''ve decided to pick up an E-trac for this coming year. I had been using an Explorer XS since 2000 and sold it last fall. I've tried a few other detectors since then but haven't found that just right detector. Perhaps I've become too used to the Explorers. Not a bad thing. The upside is that my daughter now has a very nice CZ-5 to use when she wants to go and I have an excellent backup for the E-trac.

Good luck out there to everybody in meeting those goals you set for the upcoming year.
