What are your typical sensitivity settings in disc ?

If there's not much trash I set it as high as I can tolerate it. Usually in the high 90s. If there's trash I back it down, usually in the 60s. Even though there's pretty heavily mineralized ground, the F70 and 11'' DD can tolerate high sensitivities without being too chattery.

or as high as I possibly can take it. With a disc setting of 20, that does not make a 90's sensitivity setting all that bad, chatter-wise. It's when you get below around 5 in the disc that you get a depth boost & more chatter that doesn't bother me as I'm getting to real deepies that have been missed previously.......

Bill

Do you think the F70 has the same boost with discrim below 5?

It was so much like my F75 & T2 that I traded it for another unit..........So, I don't want to guess since I have so many people hanging on my every word ready to try to correct & discredit me.......So, I'll say this-
The "gain boost" is easy to see/hear kick in, & folks can try this with any of the texas Fishers. Put the sensitivity way up into the 90's with the disc up to say 10/20. Then turn the disc down & once you get below 4 or 5 you will see a chatter increase or almost like a constant threshold tone. At least this is what I notice on my T2/F75, and how I run it chattery when I need super depth........
HH,
Bill

I run mine 90 and up and whenever possible, a disc. setting of 0. Although a higher sen. setting will get a little more depth, I like it even more so for the better un-masking the higher sen. can achieve. HH jim tn

DISC=0 --> SENS=40...55

DISC=1-4 --> SENS=40...75

DISC=6+ --> SENS=60...90

... depending upon conditions...

I have been running mine with the small coil on about 80-85...Je mode, Dp tones. Disc at 12. Notch at 1. That is a good all around disc mode for me. I have been doing good lately.

Like Bill says, my F70 is pretty calm, as long as I keep the DISC in the range he mentions.
I also find that the signal gain has as much or more effect than the SENS on noise.
I usually run the SENS up high, 80-90 and bring the THRESH up. Keep in mind this is for clear open woods or fields.

In the city or at a park, I suggest you start with factory presets and work gently from there.
