OK guys here we go.....I've been on the forums and reading for awhile now....I have a bhid 9.5 coil a couple years old its a good unit the lights are helpful with dig time red is iron....I have found some good
things with it in and out of the water I like it but I wish it had a little more depth...I recently purchased F75LTD it's a real powerhouse so now I'm thinking fisher brands...my question is this I know a lot of you guys have tried a wide variety of detectors so what are your thoughts and opinions on this......I also like to get out there chest deep at times.....thanks for info offered good luck hunting.......Dan

one more thing the excal 2 sounds good......maybe some others and pi's gotta make a decision soon the thaw is coming......hh

Start out with the best for most beachs...Excalibur II, forget the PI's........they like Iron, still.........................................Excal II...ask VRF800, AC..found at least 50 gold rings in 9 months, Gerry on the forum here is kicking butt in Mexico...and Gene..No stopping him, in Calif.....And the Ring Daddy on the other forum, chuck in miami, 60 plus golds.......All excals....the stats speak for themselfs...Good Luck,....Joe

excallibur 2.......enough said..:detecting::clapping::minelab:

if you base a good machine on stats between 2 of us we had 400 gold in 10 days with pi's off a small cove, but if i was you go for an excal if the beaches you go to have iron, if they are iron free use a pi - i had an excal and sold it and went back to a pi its deep gold i am after and the excal never performed for me, but i know others who do great with an excal, i guess you have to try both use both and use the one fit for the beach you are detecting on.

If you can afford it, get both. Then you have a great comb for all beaches. as the barnacle said if there is very little iron PI it, they sniff out deep gold, if there is a lot of iron like most of my california beaches has because of old fire pits long gone now, Excal II it. Plus you have a back up, rain or sleet. I have a PI, but can't use it around my area, I would be dog tired of digging nails in very short time. But when I do find a fairly iron clean beach I break out the PI and see what awaits my diggy little feet. Gene

Beechnut thanks for the compliment, coming from you I do consider it a compliment. We are headed back down to Mexico in a week, came home for Christmas and New Years to be with the family. The weather is now cooler during the day so I am really looking forward to putting in some longer days, I kept a log and was averaging a ring every 4 hours. I must admit the majority were silver but the gold ones were the bonus. I will be detecting daily and will post pics and stats i.e. ring verses time spent when I get back.
I spoke and compared notes with Dave who detects in the Zywatanao (sp) area and picked up some good advice, as I am relatively new to the Excalibur (8 months). My goal this time down is to slow my swing down and listen for the quite tones, I have a life vest now so can actually go into the water as opposed to the wet sand.
GOOD HUNTING TO ALL.:detecting:

Gerry.

If fresh a PI machine is worthless. And I still swear by the Fisher CZ-21. Sorry all you dihard Excab users!!!!

I live in south Ga....Fla beaches....It has been record setting cold down here....Thanks for all the good advice guys....good luck hunting.

Hi Gerry,
Have a great time down there and get in touch with me when you return.

Best Regards,
Steve Gill

yep and a little farther 1715 fleet gotta go one day...take my jeep and set out a small hurricane no category 5 though a little to much action for this old guy lol good luck to all God Bless...Dan

Excal II

scubadetector

No Offense taken, a CZ in the hands of a Pro is hard to beat...Many hunt here in the Chesapeake Bay with the CZ20/21's, doing very well....and I don't think my excal can compete, that is why I got a 10x14 Mono Infinium LS PI for the Bay, hoping I can dig under them. PI's have there place, and make great backup machines to the excal's.........

thebarnacle I was basing it on the number of Excal user that are successful, not the once in a life time finds like yours with the PI, or even Terry Herberts Anglo-Saxon Hoard found with a Cscope Detector................Joe

If depth is what you want, you shouldn't have much difficulty choosing a detector. Take a re-look at the video Surfdigger posted a few weeks ago.

Frankly I've never been much of a depth fan. I think detecting is more of a numbers and sight reading game. Therefore at the top of my list of things to look for in a detector are comfort, fast response, and pinpointing. My two cents.

I had a CZ 20 and it did very well, but those 4-9volt batts got exspensive after awhile. Gene

Gene, I TOTALLY agree with you and I stock up on Duracells when they are on sale for 9.95 for the 4. BUT with all the gold I find the expense is minimal. I do get between 40 and 60 hours of use out of it between battery changes. Not to put another machine down because I have never used one. The problem with the Excal to me is the NOISE. Since I dive I like to hear boats coming!!! The CZ is completely silent.

I used my CZ on the Florida beaches last Feb for 3 weeks. I found a total of 688 coins and one gold ring. It was my very first time in Florida detecting and I never found a cut. I didn't dive I only was wading when I went there. I was at Daytona, Sunshine, and Hollywood beaches. I also hip mount my CZ and LOVE it. I can swing that 10" coil all day long.

Anyway, My 2 CZ-21's are my only arsonal for silver and gold.

Whatever you buy LEARN your machine. A great machine in the hands of somebody that hasn't taken the time to learn it is almost worthless, Just like a very cheap machine in the hands of a die hard detectorist is deadly.
